1. Program Manager – Isaiah Program
Purpose of the position
Manage, provide and enhance services to children who are victims of sexual violence/harm and survivors. Support the provision of continued education/training in the transitional home, families, community organizations, law enforcement, and thereby ensuring safe reintegration into homes/communities. Create and advocate for an environment of safety and justice for victims and survivors. Foster and build positive working partnerships with the community, government, ministries and likeminded NGOs.
Key Major Responsibilities:
Program Management and Implementation
• Plan, develop, design and manage prevention as well as support program activities for sexual abuse and address victim needs;
• Provide professional guidance and leadership of evidence based concepts, principles, procedures and practices for survivors of sexual violence.
• Develop methods, approaches, or procedures to meet program requirements and survivor’s needs.
• Ensure crisis intervention, assessment and implementation of services for sexual violence survivors.
• Coordinate policy analysis, development, and lead in developing the distinctive voice of our lobbying, campaigns for justice and build strong synergies among and between stakeholders;
• Ensure that the Isaiah program is implemented in ways responsive to communities, partners and children’s needs in line with the KAI values, goals and strategic plan in compliance with the procedures
• Spearhead in liaison with Country Director, matters of advocacy and policy nature.
• Ensure clinical assessments are undertaken for every abused child brought into the program and work with the child protection and victim support unit to ensure accurate communication and implementation of set activities.
• Work closely with the Social Worker on case management of sexual abuse cases, assign cases assure appropriate services to clients.
• Oversee the support to primary, secondary, and tertiary for sexual abuse survivors.
• Respond empathetically to sexual abuse survivors to reduce levels of trauma by working with the trauma team in providing support during crisis intervention.
• Follow the laws and provisions on victim confidentiality.
• Design appropriate comprehensive education and awareness programs and ensure their implementation;
• Create, develop, implement, and maintain a victim support system which addresses a wide variety of issues and problems.
• Provide client support and advocacy through the judicial and criminal justice processes.
• Refer individuals/families of the abused children to appropriate community resources for additional assistance and counseling.
• Together with the Social Worker communicate and deal effectively with and families in stressful situations.
• Support the Creation of safe learning spaces with psycho-educational sessions in liaison with the Psychotherapist.
• Collaborate with like-minded NGOs, law enforcement and community organizations to meet survivor needs.
• Maintain and review required documentation and data collection
• Ensure utilization of case management system is in place and work with Social Worker.
• Identifying and applying effective measures to realize the rights of the children, their families and communities through the justice systems.
Capacity Building, Collaboration and Networking
• Ensure stakeholder mapping and assessments for effective program implementation is undertaken;
• Attend, get involved and participate in regularly scheduled management, team, and staff meetings;
• Coordinate and participate in the technical working groups under Gender, Social Welfare, Central Statistics Office and other implementing partners as well as other meetings assigned;
• Ensure to identify and align the programming to government ministries and like-minded organizations in liaison with the SM-PQ&P.
• Provide training and education to community partners/families in responding to street kid issues that affect their well-being;
• Support Reintegration Enterprise Development Officer in developing proposals to secure new funding opportunities for economic strengthening of children reunified with their families;
• Create a referral system and network that will strengthen the reunification processes of children with their families;
• Work with Victim support unit, child protection unit, hospitals and other relevant partners in referrals to ensure confidentiality and efficiency in handling of abuse cases.
3. Monitoring, evaluation and reporting
• Actively monitor program activities, ensuring quality of KAZ programming against achievement and budgetary targets, thereby making any necessary any program adjustments;
• Input into the development of M&E and indicator tracking plans for all projects and the development of additional M&E tools as necessary to monitor project progress; (led by Senior Manager Program Quality & Partnerships – SM PQ&P);
• Ensure appropriate, timely and accurate data collection against agreed indicators to enable both internal and external reporting
• Work with SM-PQ&P to identify and incorporate project suitable accountability mechanisms for impact achievement;
• Preparation of narrative reports monthly, quarterly and annually;
• Tracking and managing program expenditure and ensuring no over or under-expenditure;
• Facilitate documentation of lessons learnt and best practices of the program;
Safeguarding and leadership
• Working with the trauma care team ensure that the children are provided with mental health and psycho-social support;
• Working closely with the Senior Manager safeguarding ensure child protection and adult safeguarding protocols are observed and adhered to through orientation and trainings;
• Work with Social Workers to ensure safe reintegration into family/community.
• Coordinate in liaison with the safeguarding department to develop materials for trainings and awareness programs for children, partners, stakeholders and the community;
• Comply with Kids Alive policies and practices with respect to child protection & safeguarding, code of conduct, health and safety;
• Monitor and evaluate performance of matrix reporting staff and give effective feedback;
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, skills, competencies and abilities
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Nursing, Social Work or any other related field. Master’s in public health, nursing will be added advantage.
• A post graduate qualification in Project management, public health, Management from a credible University will be an added advantage
• A minimum of three years’ experience in direct social service with knowledge in sexual violence, domestic violence, women’s issues, human and child development, and working with families in crisis.
• Knowledge of and experience working with sexual violence and child abuse victims/survivors.
• Must have the ability to set clear, professional boundaries and maintain confidentiality.
• Must have the ability to handle crisis situations in a calm, effective manner.
• Must have the ability to be self-directed yet work effectively as a team member.
• Must have the ability to speak to the public and one-on-one regarding the issues of abuse in a knowledgeable, skillful manner, and in accordance with KAI’s mission and values.
• Must have the ability to complete effective oral and written reports and must be able to meet deadlines consistently.
• Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and have excellent organizational skills.
• Group counseling and facilitation skills essential; ability to communicate effectively, provide conflict resolution, problem solve and crisis manage.
• Excellent ability to assess and intervene with appropriate and effective intervention.
• Must be able to relate positively to persons who are diverse in age, ethnicity, socioeconomic levels, beliefs and lifestyles.
• Must communicate clearly in both verbal and written formats.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
