JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
Fabricates high quality prosthetic and orthotic devices under the direction of prosthetic/orthotic clinicians that improve the mobility of children with disability and enable their full participation in society. Works with lead prosthetist/orthotist to develop workshop capacity including training of workshop assistants.

Specific Duties
1. Prepares and fills prosthetic/orthotic casts aligned according to clinician instructions
2. Uses standard techniques including thermoforming and lamination to fabricate orthoses and prosthetic sockets.
3. Prepares additional prosthetic/orthotic components including sewing leather straps, bending and attaching metal uprights and joints.
4. Assembles and aligns devices ready for fitting
5. Finishes prosthetic and orthotic devices to high standard for delivery to patients.
6. Adapts footwear according to clinician specifications including shoe raises, wedges and flares
7. Documents the components and techniques used in the fabrication of a device.
8. Maintains inventory of supplies and materials
9. Communicates with prosthetic/orthotic clinicians to ensure that treatment plans are on track
10. Evaluates devices at each stage of fabrication to ensure high quality and patient safety
11. Replaces or repairs broken components including straps, padding, lining, rivets etc. as directed by clinician
12. Trains orthopedic workshop assistants in prosthetic/orthotic fabrication and repair.
13. Demonstrates ongoing personal and professional development by undertaking relevant trainings including CPD activities as may be organized inside or outside the hospital
14. Adheres to BCH and MOH protocols and documentation standards
15. Performs routine maintenance of tools and equipment and reports any malfunction to the immediate supervisor or appropriate person(s) as soon as possible
16. Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by Supervisor

Job Requirements
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a prosthetic/orthotic workshop with competence in thermoforming, lamination, metal-bending, leatherwork, shoe adaptation, router operation.
• Experience fabricating pediatric devices and assembling modular prosthetic devices is highly desirable
• Good communication skills with peers, superiors, patients and their families
• Ability to handle or process confidential documents or material in an appropriate manner
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, and work independently.
