REQUEST FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Organizational Context
SolidarMed is a Swiss non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare in Africa. It is currently active in six countries in eastern and southern Africa and reaches 2.5 million people in Lesotho, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa with various health programmes developed in close cooperation with local hospitals, health centers, partner organizations and health authorities. It was registered in Zambia in 2010 under the Registrar of Societies and later as a Non-Governmental Organization in 2013 with registration number RNGO 101/0075/2013. SolidarMed shares the vision of the Ministry of Health of equitable access to cost-effective, quality health care for all Zambians with a particular focus on the rural areas.
Vision
SolidarMed’ s vision is for all people in southern and eastern Africa to have access to good health care.
Project Background
Health facilities in rural Zambia suffer from an acute shortage of health workers. The lack of qualified staff is a major contributing factor towards poorer health outcomes in rural areas. To address this challenge, SolidarMed invests in human resources for health by training Medical Licentiates (non-physician clinicians) nurses and midwives, specifically for the rural areas. We also improve working conditions for rural health staff through the key intervention of improved staff housing. Other key interventions include the construction of other key buildings, such as student hostels and skills laboratories to improve the quality of health services provided in rural areas.
Purpose
The purpose of this Expression of Interest is to strengthen our database of vendors who are available, competitive and capable of the following:
1. Building new and upgrading existing infrastructure which will include but will not be limited to houses, skills labs and student hostels. Our building designs embrace different technologies including interlocking stabilized soil blocks and concrete blocks.
2. Provision of various solar installations which include but are not limited to domestic solar systems, institutional solar systems and solar Mini Grids.
3. Water systems which include but are not limited to boreholes (including solar powered boreholes) and hand water pumps.
Our projects are spread across Zambia with a particular focus on Lusaka Province.
Required Services
SolidarMed is therefore seeking firms with the capacity to provide any of the above listed services. Once selected, contractors will then become one of our preferred contractors and will be given the opportunity (through a supply and build contract) to work with us as we strive to build better health services in Zambia. All contractors should be ready to work in rural areas and have a demonstrated track record of timely delivery and quality execution of services. All contractors are also required to showcase their capacity in terms of human resource and technical capacity and be ready to work with the SolidarMed Training team (Trainers and Trainees).
Requirements
1. Up to date company profile with traceable physical address.
2. Company registration certificates including PACRA, ZRA, Workman’s Compensation and NAPSA.
3. National Council for Construction (NCC) Registration certificate.
4. A minimum of three (3) traceable references of previous work.
