JOB DETAILS:
Synergy Seeds Zambia (SSZ) is a leading breeding and producer of white corn, soya beans and wheat seed in Zambia. Its unique genetic material is specifically selected and adapted to local conditions throughout Zambia.
Synergy seeds Zambia is seeking to recruit an experienced and suitably qualified individual to fill position of Seed Analyst in Chongwe/Lusaka under the Processing Department.
LOCATION: CHONGWE/LUSAKA CONTRACT DURATION: TWO YEARS FIXED CONTRACT

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The job holder shall be responsible for conducting seed testing to ensure that only seed that meets the acceptable standards are marketed or sold. The successful candidate will be reporting to the LAB Quality Manager.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Germination Capacity Determination – Timely determination of germination, capacity of seed lots or conduct seed evaluation of germinated seed.
• Moisture Determination – Timely determination of moisture on seeds to access moisture content.
• Purity Test – Timely in purity testing to access physical purity of the seed.
• Seed Dormancy Breaking – Timely in dormancy breaking to facilitate the germinability of seed.
• Number Determination – Timely Number determination to access weed presence in seed lots.
• Other tests – Timely in carrying out other tests such as vigour, defects, proficiency testing and grading.
• Equipment – Timely maintenance, calibrating and servicing of the seed testing laboratory equipment.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Diploma in science laboratory, agricultural science or any other related field.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in relevant role

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 and laboratory management system
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 will be an added advantage
• Seed Analyst license will be an added advantage.
• The current version of International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) rules and standards
• Seed Certification System in Zambia
• The current version of the plant variety and seed act Cap 236 and its registration.
