Social Workers
Locations: Mongu (1) And Lusaka (2)

Purpose of the position:
Implement the work plan and interventions for either the Ray of Hope, ISAIAH or Spring of Life programs. You shall work with children who have been socially excluded or who are experiencing trauma/emotional crisis. Identify safe homes for children ready to be transitioned and strengthen family bonds. Working with Reintegration Enterprise Development Team in identifying sustainable economic empowerment support required. Your work settings will include but not limited to working with; individuals, families and groups within the community. Work with schools, hospitals, government departments, communities and likeminded NGOs for the achievement of the set goals.

Key Major Responsibilities:
1. Case Management
• Point of entry assessment for children and make referrals as required to for clinical or medical assessment;
• Interview children, review records, conduct assessments, and confer with professionals to evaluate the mental or physical condition of children;
• In liaison with the Psychotherapists, counsel, aid and address children’s related issues of trauma, drug abuse, alcoholism, sexual violence, harm in liaison with;
• Interview children’s, review records, conduct assessments, and confer with professionals to evaluate the mental or physical condition of a child;
• Provide complete documentation and records of assessments and treatment according to standard operating procedures;
• Working with other institutions, mobilize the relevant children for support in the facility.
2. Trauma Informed Care Assessments
• Assist children in adhering to treatment plans such as setting up appointments, arranging for transportation to appointments and providing support;
• This could be one-on-one counselling or group therapy at assessment level.
• Interview and evaluate child’s problems and relevant make referrals;
• Collaborate with Psychotherapists and nurses to plan and coordinate treatment, drawing on social work experience and patient’s needs;
• In liaison with the psychotherapist, educate children, parents and community members about mental and physical illness, abuse, medication and available community resources;
• Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports for legal action and where need be;
• May be expected to give evidence in court in line with the child case file;
• Refer patients or family members to community resources for treatment to assist in recovery from trauma, other mental or physical illness to ensure service efficacy;
• Strengthen the family support system by engaging the child’s families during treatment progression so that they know the nature of the mental health conditions of their loved one/s.
3. Behavioral Change management
• Discuss and analyze the behavioral issues and problems of the children and families;
• Counsel and monitor the behavioral actions of the children for behavioral change documentation and tracking;
• Monitoring the behavioral actions of the children ;
• Research and engage behavioral change methodologies and agents then share adequately.
4. Child Protection & Safeguarding
• Work closely with the Child Protection department in awareness, disseminating and training of children and families;
• Ensure compliance to policy provisions including collaboration with relevant Senior
• Management and law enforcers in the unlikely event that cases of child abuse are recorded that require prosecution;
• Assist in assessments on risks and preparedness to respond to child abuse incidents;
• Ensure the safety and well-being of the children in the facility and anywhere assigned;
• Ensure application of domesticated regulations of child protection protocols, norms and convention on the Rights of a Child (CRC);
• Undertake performance appraisals for direct reports.
5. Family strengthening, monitoring and reporting
• Family preparation, assessment and identifying support required for family strengthening, thereafter notify the relevant department for follow up and identification of economic empowerment support;
• Collect, document data on direct and indirect beneficiaries for impact;
• Provide support and mentorship to caregivers on best practice in child care;
• Ensure all caregivers are provided with adequate and appropriate work tools at all times;
• Provide information to parents concerning their children’s development, abilities, and areas of concern;
• Discussing and analyzing the behavioral issues and problems of the children and families;
• Planning and implementing of children, youth camps and activities;
• Monitor, evaluate, and record child progress with respect to treatment goals;
• Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports for legal action and where need be giving evidence in court;
• Provide complete documentation and records of assessments and treatment according to standard operating procedures.
• Production of monthly reports and documentation of success and impact stories.
Qualifications and Experience
• Must have a minimum of a Diploma in Social Work and a degree in Social Work will be an added advantage;
• Degree in Development Studies, Psychology, Sociology;
• Practice experience in child counselling, rehabilitation or behavioral monitoring for not less than 2 years;
• 2-5 years practical experience working with children in a similar setting may be strongly desired;
• Must be approachable and empathic;
• Practical experience on gender based violence projects is added advantage;
• 2-5 experience in different therapeutic or counseling methods and being able to switch between different approaches to meet each child’s needs is key and added advantage;
• Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate with children of different ages and from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds;
• Aware of all professional, ethical, and legal regulations as determined by relevant regulatory bodies and the law.
