GIFT of HOPE PROJECT

Plan International is implementing a two-year youth economic empowerment project. The goal of the project is to empower out of school young people especially girls to have sustained income through enhanced skills and opportunities for entrepreneurship. The Gift of Hope livestock enterprise project will train young people in 8 Sponsorship Communities in Central Province in livestock farming skills to support livestock enterprises in goat, poultry, and beekeeping farming.

ACTIVITY RATIONALE

Amongst the total of the targeted 1240 beneficiaries, 40 are Community Livestock Volunteers that will be empowered with skills and technical knowledge of small livestock and poultry management and disease control. The newly acquired skills are intended to empower the youth CLVs with opportunities for income generation through the services they will be able to render to local community farmers.

To enable them to deliver the veterinary services effectively and efficiently, the project intends to support these CLVs with the relevant tools (VET KITS). The vet kits will form the initial material capital to allow them respond adequately to the needs of the beneficiaries and other community members who may be interested in the services.

ACTIVITY MAIN OBJECTIVES & OUTCOMES

1. To equip the CLVs with the necessary tools required for them to carry out their roles in the project, adequately.

2. To create adequate support systems and structures for the direct and indirect project beneficiaries in the target communities.

3. To ensure adequate and effect management of livestock for project success and increased impact.
