III. Objectives of Assignment
Project Goals and Objective
The consultant is expected to obtain data and provide the following recommendations.
a) Identify potential high yielding points (minimum 15 points) and conduct hydro-geophysical study for consideration in borehole drilling.
b) Recommend the drilling depth per point
c) Identify the ground formation in order to allow for the drilling contractor and client plan for drilling and borehole design.
d) Supervisory technical borehole drilling back stopping
Summary of Operation
Methodology
1. Hydro geophysical survey
The consultant should carry out detailed hydro-geophysical survey on the 81ha property in Chisamba to identify 05 good potential borehole points. The Consultant is expected to use both secondary and primary data in the exercise, Secondary data will involve desk study of available information from WARMA and data on surrounding existing boreholes, reports and maps while primary data will be obtained by carrying out hydro-geophysical measurements within the study area using the necessary hydro-geological surveying equipment for this assignment.
2 The Consultant is expected to carry out the assessment using the below listed scientific methods or any superior alternative suitable to the terrain of the area and deemed suitable by the client.
During the field surveys, the Consultant is expected to deploy the following methodologies
✓ combination of resistivity profiling and Vertical Electrical Soundings.
✓ The use of the Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) method.
a) The consultant is expected to clearly mark the identified high yielding points using size Y-12 deformed metal bars cast in concrete.
2. Technical Supervision and backstopping during borehole drilling
Based on the geophysical report submitted by the consultant, the company will engage a driller to drill 5 boreholes. In consultation with the driller, the consultant will provide a work plan, rig movement plan, and supervise the drilling operations.
IV. Scope of work
Project Strategy/ Listing of Project Activities
The scope of works includes:
The outcome of the consultancy will be a detailed hydro-geological survey report giving details of the findings and recommendations for the proposed 5 boreholes
Technical Supervision and backstopping during borehole drilling,
Under the supervision of the Project Engineer, the consultant is expected to undertake the following Tasks:
REPORTING
The final report to be submitted will be a comprehensive account of the whole of the Consultancy; it will review the existing literature and other relevant information, such as drilling logs, satellite images, etc. The report shall include all field data, interpretations and justifications, hydro-geological evaluations, conclusions and recommendations relating to the investigated area. In addition, appropriate maps, diagrams and data plots shall be presented. Of considerable importance will be an objective assessment of the applicability and success of the methods applied.
The outline table of contents of the final report will be as follows: At a minimum, the following parameters are expected to be reported.
a) Name and details of applicant
b) Location and description of proposed Activity
c) Details of geology and hydrogeology
d) Graph of the survey (profiling and sounding)
e) Hydrogeological setting
f) Assessment of water quality and salinity
g) Assessment of availability of groundwater
h) Analysis of the reserve
i) Impact of proposed activity on aquifer, water quality, other abstractors, including likelihood of coalescing cones of depression and implications for other groundwater users in any potentially impacted areas
j) Sketch map showing location of selected suitable drilling points
k) Recommendations for borehole development, to include but not limited to, the following:
i. Locations of recommended borehole(s) expressed as a coordinate WGS 84 Decimal Degree format (s) and indicated on a sketch map (labeled (A, B and C) in order of drilling priority)
ii. Recommendations regarding borehole or well density and minimum spacing in the project area
iii. Recommended depth and maximum diameter
iv. Recommended construction characteristics, e.g., wire-wound screen, grouting depth
v. Anticipated yield
l) Any other relevant information (e.g., need to monitor neighbouring boreholes during tests).
m) The consultant should support the driller to provide borehole drilling reports at the end of the drilling campaign.
The reports will include the borehole logs, pumping and recovery test data and curves, water quality test results, preliminary and final borehole construction drawings among others.
The report should cover each of the above, insofar as data limitations allow. The report also should include maps, diagrams, tables and appendices as appropriate. Recommendations will be given on the most suitable site for borehole drilling, the required depth, water quality, design and installation details, and other relevant aspects. Based on the available hydro- geological and geophysical data, an assessment of the anticipated chances of success shall be made for each individual site.
All geophysical data, including its interpretation will be produced as an appendix to the final report.
The data obtained from the hydro geophysical survey will be an input for borehole drilling and supervision, therefore the consultant shall be expected to clearly submit in the inception report the methodology to be used during borehole drilling supervision and backstopping.
V. Expected Outputs and Duration of the Assignment
1. An accepted inception report which includes the proposed approach for the assignment, a description of the process, the methodology and implementation schedule. (Within a week of contract signing)
2. Accepted first report with fieldwork findings on hydro geological and hydro geophysical data, including recommendations submitted. (Within 3 weeks of contract signing)
3. Supervisory technical borehole drilling back stopping report (Within 6 weeks of contract signing)
IX. Qualifications
The following are the minimum qualifications and experience requirements:
Organisation
Engineering Body.
Lead consultant- Hydro geologist
Evaluation Criteria
a) The lowest Price Quote among technically responsive offers shall be considered,
