JOB DETAILS:
We are on a mission to share the love of Christ by fighting the world’s greatest injustices. It is estimated that there are more than 40 million slaves in the world today—more than any time in history. Most trafficking victims are subjected to the worst conditions and several of the most horrific crimes, including deception, kidnapping, rape, torture, and enslavement. Traffickers often target the young, uneducated, naïve, and innocent. Selling a story of hope to those most desperate for it, they use deception to gain control and then maintain control through acts of violence. The scale of the problem, the gravity of the crimes involved, and the vulnerability of its victims combine to make human trafficking and the slavery it engenders perhaps the greatest injustice in the world today.
Transit Monitoring attacks trafficking at the most strategic moment—while it is in the process of occurring, but before victims have been exploited or enslaved. Transit monitoring seeks out people who are being actively trafficked or at high risk of being trafficked and prevents it. It is tangible, measurable, and has a very high impact on the dollar.
A Transit Monitor stands in public areas like train or bus stations and border crossings, and watches for signs of trafficking. When they see these signs, they will show an identity card and question the suspected victim and trafficker. If they conclude that the potential victim really is being trafficked, they will “intercept” her and prevent her from going on.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Your primary role will be to:
1. Monitor strategic transit areas (train stations, bus stations, ferries, airports, etc.)
2. Targeted awareness (developing relationships with strategic people in transit areas to create “High Value Contacts” who might help identify human trafficking cases)
3. Build relationships with police to help potential victims file cases and pursue arrests of suspects
4. Care for potential victims who are intercepted
5. Data collection – collecting and recording key data to help Love Justice Zamibia learn more about the nature of human trafficking
6. Share the gospel (when appropriate) with the potential victims that are intercepted
Qualifications:
A transit monitor should have the following qualifications:
• A mature Christian
• A broken heart for injustice in the world today-particularly human trafficking

• Language proficiency in: English, and at least one local or regional language (Silozi, Nyanja and Bemba, Swahili, French, etc)
• Resident (expected to know the areas and places he/she will be working)
Work Environment and Requirements:
This position will be based in Lusaka and you will be expected to work part-time from the field–strategic transit monitoring locations. The nature of this work requires flexibility and you may likely be asked to shift to a different location or shift the hours you are working depending on what proves to be most effective.
