Our services help our clients develop and improve their capacity. Founded in 2012, Inkomoko identifies Rwandan and refugee entrepreneurs and provides them with trusted advisors, practical services, technology tools, and affordable capital, so that they can grow their businesses and create jobs for others. In 2018 Inkomoko is working with 1800 entrepreneurs in Rwanda, including hundreds of Congolese and Burundian refugees who are creating businesses in Rwanda.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Inkomoko seeks a highly talented and experienced Business Development Manager to work directly with our entrepreneur clients. The Business Development Manager will join a growing start-up team with core responsibilities as follows:

MANAGEMENT & GENERAL ADMINISTRATION (50% time)

  • Serve as a coach, mentor and advisor to Business Development Advisors (BDAs) and Business Associates (BAs) to help them improve their capabilities and skills.
  • Assist BDAs and review work as needed to ensure high-quality work is delivered to clients.
  • Coordinate BDA team activities with other department activities, ensuring highest quality of organization and client services outcomes.
  • Work with the Deputy Director of Special Projects and Executive team to develop annual goals for Inkomoko.
  • Build the capacity of team members to reach Inkomoko’s annual objectives, in particular providing finance training and support to other Inkomoko staff.
  • Assist Inkomoko and AEC management in Micro Business Solutions projects, including training, expansion initiatives, and representation of Inkomoko both within and outside of Rwanda.
  • Provide guidance/recommendations to finance-facing roles, including the Sr. Accounts manager and AEC Rwanda Trustee loan staff, as needed
  • Participate in the development of AEC goals, strategies, and planning
  • Represent Inkomoko in the local business community, conferences and other events
  • Keep up to date on latest business and industry trends in Rwanda and across East Africa
  • Manage the team’s record of billable hours and activities in organizational tracking system (Odoo, etc)

STRATEGIC ADVISING & CLIENT RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT (20% time)

  • Provide a single point of contact for clients and manage the schedule and delivery of services throughout each client engagement.
  • Regularly communicate with BDAs and BAs to conduct site visits as needed to keep clients engaged and deliver contracted services.
  • Act as internal champion for your team to ensure INKOMOKO consistently delivers high-quality services and meets client expectations.
  • Connect clients to other Inkomoko services, as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement strong consulting, tracking and reporting tools for BDAs and BAs
  • Explore financial opportunities/challenges with clients (both from Inkomoko and from other sources), advising BDAs and BAs on how investment impacts clients business plan and growth.
  • Manage weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to stakeholders in a timely manner

BUSINESS ASSESSMENT & BUSINESS/GROWTH PLAN DEVELOPMENT (30% time)

  • Conduct site visits and client interviews to fully understand business needs, challenges, and opportunities; review business assessment reports defining the strengths & weaknesses.
  • Assist BDAs to implement the recommendations of the business/growth plan and help clients to navigate challenges, make sound business decisions, and achieve their business/growth goals.
  • Review generated financial statements, forecasts, and profitability analyses for your assigned clients and support the client portfolios of other BDAs.
  • Manage the schedule and delivery of services throughout client engagements
  • Regularly track and report on progress of client work and project deliverable

  • 3+ years of work experience in relevant or applicable field
  • Experience in consulting, business planning, and providing business advice
  • Strong financial and accounting skills; familiarity with Rwanda’s tax & financial policies
  • Excellent computer skills, especially with MS Excel and Word
  • Proven experience in managing a team
  • Good written and oral communications skills
  • Good presentation and training skills
  • Shows perseverance, personal integrity, and critical thinking skills
  • Must speak fluent English and Kinyarwanda; French and Swahili are an added advantage
  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration/ Accounting or related field
  • Willingness to travel around the country from time to time, in line with the job needs
