Energy access in sub-Saharan Africa is a significant problem, with more than 600 million people currently without mains electricity supply. For example, in Rwanda, 9.5 million people or 81% of the population cannot access mains electricity, which has a negative impact on quality of life and limits people’s chances of achieving economic prosperity.
BBOXX is helping to address this issue by providing off-grid communities in developing countries with smart, affordable and clean energy solutions. BBOXX customers typically use a Pay-As-You-Go payment method, which offers more access to people who are able to have electricity at home at a price they can afford. To date BBOXX has installed more than 150,000 systems and provided around 750,000 people with access to energy. We are the leading global off-grid solar company, and are fully vertically integrated, controlling every part of our customer experience.
ROLE PROFILE Title: Head of Marketing and Sales Reports to: Group Director of Commercial and Innovation Direct Reports: Branding & Marcoms, Market Research and Sales Channels (Business Process) Managers
Location: Kigali, Rwanda (with some travel to the UK and our East & West African markets)Role Purpose: The Head of Marketing & Sales will lead BBOXX’ efforts in these two key commercial areas. You will be responsible for creating innovative strategies and the associated project roadmaps for improving relevant business processes and developing effective tools which will help DESCOs (= Distributed Energy Service Companies) achieve their marketing goals and sales targets.
Your role
Define and deliver on the long-term marketing and sales strategy for the company (in consultation with the Commercial & Innovation Director)
Convey our commercial B2C objectives to the local markets effectively
Ensure marketing and sales best practices are followed in all DESCOs
Monitor commercial results and re-define strategies as needed
Identify a set of key projects that will enable MDs at DESCOs to meet their objectives
Identify and prioritize innovative projects by establishing clear business cases
Get buy-in from key stakeholders (Group and DESCOs) for project roadmap
Help Marketing & Sales Managers to run their projects effectively
Develop and maintain KPIs to evaluate project impact at DESCO-level
Collaborate with the Branding & Marcoms Manager on building and improving relevant processes (and align initiatives with the Marketing & Communications Manager B2B)
Lead the B2C positioning and on-going strategic development of the BBOXX brand (transformation from a solar energy company to a next-generation utility)
Work closely with the Product & Services department to ensure the B2C value propositions are in line with the brand vision and communications framework
Develop, pilot and help plan the implementation of marketing communications activities (ATL and BTL, including digital and social media) across DESCOs
Collaborate with the Market Research Manager on building and improving relevant processes
Define customer and competitor research objectives and methodologies
Coordinate customer research approach with Products & Services department
Combine market research findings with business intelligence insights to support BBOXX’ development to a data-driven company
Collaborate with the Sales Channels Manager on building and improving relevant processes
Analyse sales channel strategy and structure, especially the agent sales network
Drive the ‘shift to digital’ (e.g. agent app) to generate sales processes efficiencies
Identify new (direct or indirect) channels to allow for higher sales capillarity
3-5 years’ experience in a senior marketing/sales role leading and coaching a team
Proven success stories of performing above expectations on developing new sales channels, strengthening a company’s brand presence or conducting market research
Experience with implimenting operational improvements which rely on softwar changes impacting a large installed customer base
Team player capable of effectively communicating with a large variety of external and internal stakeholders (at Group and DESCO level)v
Excellent written and oral communication skills, fluency in English
Desirable (but not essential)
Experience in the off-grid solar energy sector
Fluency in French or other relevant languages
Familiarity with Agile Project Management frameworks
Experience with the Human
Centred Design approach
