The UNICEF Programme of Cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) is designed to address and mitigate the threat of poverty the country’s children face, while responding to the needs with interventions addressing the multiple causative factors.

How can you make a difference?
The objective of the position is to provide technical leadership to stunting and micronutrient deficiencies reduction programmes through three key systems: Health System (including through the Education platform), Social Protection System, and Food System, and is the focal point for climate resilient nutrition programming in the UNICEF Country Office. S/he drives technical support to the Government, including in Nutrition strategic planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and defines UNICEF’s priority interventions to accelerate achievement of Nutrition results for children in Zambia. S/he is relied on to build and sustain partnerships with key Government counterparts, donors, development partners, other UNICEF colleagues across sectors, and private sector stakeholders relevant to Nutrition at the technical level. The Nutrition Specialist manages other Nutrition Team members under Output 1.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:
Education:
• An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, nutritional epidemiology, or another health-related science field.

Work Experience:
• A minimum of five years of professional experience in a developing country in one or more of the following areas is required: nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, infant and child health/nutrition care.
• Experience in health/nutrition programme/project development and management in a UN system agency or organization is an asset
• Experience managing Nutrition interventions through the Health System is an asset.
• Experience designing UNICEF’s intervention(s) within the food system is an asset, especially if the experience is on First Foods.
• Experience implementing nutrition interventions through the Social Protection platform is desirable.

Language Proficiency:
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Desirables:

• Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
