Job Title: Strategy and Quality Lead - ECA (1686)

Do you have experience doing so both in development and humanitarian settings, working on direct responses as well as with partners? Are you able to influence programmes and people to get the very best out of them? In that case, you might well be who we are looking for.

The Tearfund East and Central Africa team is looking for a Strategy and Quality Lead, based in one of the 6 countries within region. The role will provide support to the East and Central Africa team and country office teams particularly in the areas of country strategies (development, implementation and evaluation), technical expertise, and developing consortia and large-scale proposal development. The role will work closely with Country Leads and roles with technical (sector) and programme development expertise.

This is an exciting position which will give you the opportunity to be involved in the following areas:

  • Programme Quality and assurance (in project design, implementation, and monitoring)
  • Building country strategies and measuring impact
  • Oversight of multi-sectoral responses across countries
  • Regular reviews and updates of learning within technical expertise of programming and sectors
  • Policy work and cross-country advocacy
  • Disaster response surge support
  • The post-holder will need to be available travel to the region, including to provide start up or surge support functions in the event of Tearfund starting new significant humanitarian responses in the East and Central Africa region.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant experience in a management position implementing oversight of strategic and quality functions in both humanitarian and development environments
  • Ability to focus on specific programmes and projects to excel
  • Experience in supporting the writing, and reviewing of country strategies and measuring their impact
  • Experience in managing very diverse people and teams
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience in coaching and capacity building the team
  • Fluent English language skills plus a preference for a working knowledge of the French language.
  • The ability to work in fast moving environment and comfortable with constant change

  • We would expect applicants to be able to demonstrate a clear and specific desire to work in this region. All posts involve potential contact with children and the recruitment process will include specific checks related to safeguarding issues.

Please note: This role requires frequent travel of up to 20 weeks a year to the following countries: The Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Rwanda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Burundi. It is essential that the successful candidate will have the ability to travel to all 6 countries.

The successful candidate will need to have the right to live and work within one of the 6 countries in Tearfund's East and Central Africa region team (i.e.; The Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Rwanda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Burundi)
