Job Summary
The Underwriting and Claims Officer is responsible for evaluating insurance applications, assessing risks, determining policy terms, and processing claims efficiently. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a good understanding of insurance policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting Responsibilities:
• Assess insurance applications and determine risk exposure.
• Analyze clients/brokers proposals to decide on policy terms.
• Calculate premiums based on risk analysis and underwriting guidelines.
• Approve or reject applications based on company policies.
• Work with agents, brokers, and clients to clarify underwriting requirements.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and company underwriting standards.
• Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions.
Claims Responsibilities:
• Review and assess insurance claims for validity and coverage.
• Investigate claims by gathering necessary documentation and evidence.
• Coordinate with loss adjusters, investigators, and related experts where required.
• Calculate claim settlements based on policy terms and coverage limits.
• Approve or deny claims based on company guidelines and risk assessment.
• Ensure prompt and fair claim settlements while preventing fraudulent claims.
• Provide excellent customer service to claimants and policyholders.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 2-5 years of experience in underwriting and/or claims processing.
• Strong knowledge of insurance principles, underwriting guidelines, and claims procedures.
Key Skills & Competencies
• Analytical and decision-making skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of insurance regulations and industry best practices.
• Proficiency in insurance software and MS Office Suite.
• Customer service orientation and problem-solving skills.
Reporting Line:
Reports to the Underwriting and Claims Manager/Head of Underwriting & Claims.

Experience in Months: 24
Level of Education: Bachelor Degree
