Title: WGI Program Assistant

Supervisor: Livelihood Manager

The Women and Girls Initiative (WGI) is an Adolescent Girls Empowerment programming under the PIH/IMB, which aims at advancing gender equity and development for rural disadvantaged adolescent girls and young women in Kayonza District. The project has grown out of PIH/IMB’s commitment not only to doing “whatever it takes” to ensure quality health care, improve community health, and promote local development, but also to fight extreme poverty and realize basic human rights among the rural poor female adolescent. The program supports young women and girls ages 12-24 by offering them access to education and training, health, leadership development, and economic opportunities. For the past 8 years, the program beneficiaries have been out of school girls who were unable to continue their primary and secondary education or young teen mothers through a combination of scholarships, entrepreneurship training, life skills training, health education and development of income-generating activities.

Description:

The Women and Girls Initiative (WGI) Program Assistant will be in charge of the annual implementation and coordination of the WGI major interventions in Kayonza District under the guidance of Livelihood Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the implementation of all the interventions including scholarship, economic empowerment, health education and life skills training for all girls participating in WGI project;
  • Monitor progress of all beneficiaries currently participating in WGI scholarship and economic empowerment programs;
  • Support the expansion of the sowing apprentice training to additional beneficiaries every 6 months;
  • Plan and implement the activities of the Poverty Alleviation intervention in the 8 sectors in Kayonza District
  • Conduct monthly supervision visit to these different interventions to monitor progress and impact in the participants life;
  • Assist in grant-writing and application processes;
  • Support the management of the budget;
  • Assist in the implementation of project monitoring and evaluation to measure interventions impact;
  • Organize quarterly meetings with different actors of the program including the girls, their parents/guardians, local authorities etc;
  • Compile and adapt educational materials from partner organizations for health, life skills and financial literacy curriculum development;
  • Coordinate implementation of health, life skills and financial literacy training;
  • Maintain WGI database, media and communications (pictures, interviews, short videos) documenting the impact of the interventions including correspondence, paper writing and outreach documents;
  • Liaise with partners (local and international) and donors for program development;
  • Provide weekly and quarterly reports on activities;
  • Help draft 6 months and 12 months WGI Action plan;
  • Support the process of becoming a formal handcraft cooperative;
  • Any other request.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in social work, psychology, development rural or in the relevant field of study
  • At least two years of relevant work experience (project management, Health, and development strongly preferred);
  • Strong interest in adolescent programming, health, education and/or development issues;
  • Willingness to live and work in rural Rwanda for at least a 2-year commitment (previous experience living in sub-Saharan Africa strongly preferred);
  • English and/or French language fluency; Kinyarwanda required
  • Basic computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, etc.).
