Location: UP Zambia Office, Lusaka
Duration: 6 months
Duties
- Attending court sessions to follow up with and provide legal information to clients prior to their court appearances as needed.
- Visit UP Zambia legal desk to speak and offer advice to clients detained in prison.
- Providing legal information to clients assigned to you by your supervisor.
- Prepare case files and track the progress of cases assigned to you.
- Assisting with parent tracing.
- Engaging with defense witnesses and other case-related tasks.
- Conducting research on areas of law which are relevant to the cases you are working on.
- Assisting in drafting legal documents and ensuring that all case information is properly entered into the physical file and online case management system.
- Inform your supervisor of all pending court dates in cases assigned to you.
- Assist in the preparation of reports.
Key Requirements & Attributes
- Undergraduate degree in law from a recognised institution. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Strong research and report writing skills.
- Excellent listening and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with criminal law and evidence, particularly defence.
- Strong understanding of legal principles and terminology.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work under limited supervision.
- Strong commitment to social justice
