Background
Mafisa is strengthening climate-smart, productive pastoralist livelihoods in Zambia’s poorest and most climate-impacted regions. We are developing a replicable, profitable model that will help traditional cattle-raising communities to increase ownership, improve herd health and adopt regenerative rangeland management, and create fair market opportunities so they will have larger, more sustainable incomes.
Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Head of Water Resources and Construction, the Borehole Maintenance and Training Officer will be responsible for maintaining good coordination with the community water management committees to ensure the quality of the implemented activities and provide technical support for all water-related activities.
Responsibilities:
• To conduct community mobilization and engagement on water treatment, sanitation, and waste management.
• Follow up on water management progress in the community, document success stories and learned lessons.
• Facilitating appropriate community involvement in identifying the location of boreholes and spray races by carrying out community mobilization activities
• Assist in mobilizing the community before and after carrying Geophysical surveys to determine the suitable location for possible drilling site.
• Attend District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC) – water and sanitation and hygiene (WASH) meetings upon request from the Head of Water Resources and Construction
• Field monitoring, and follow-up on borehole drilling, rehabilitation, and water yard construction in the field location.
• Establish in each Mafisa community a water management committee responsible for the management of water supply facilities (water users’ communities, fight against vandalism, proper use of water supply facilities, reporting of channels)
Education and Qualifications
• A Diploma in relevant fields, such as environmental health, water and sanitation engineering
• At least 1-2 years of experience in borehole drilling or WASH-related projects
• Valid Driving License
• 2-3 years experience in a similar role
• Fluency in English
