JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
The Chief Accountant will be responsible for handling budget preparations, analysing financial data and handle all statutory obligations. The Chief Accountant will also handle all financial priorities and improve overall efficiency of the organisation. Demonstrate exceptional management skills and accounting expertise in a variety of personal and corporate accounting practices, including overseeing payroll and taxes.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:
• Preparing the budget in accordance and coordination with the various departments.
• Budget reporting to the senior officials or concerned authorities.
• Preparing financial statements of the business at the end of each financial cycle or the intervals decided by the authorities of the organization
• Overall responsible for the accounting function of the company; including the general ledger accounting, fixed assets accounting, tax accounting, accounts payable, stocks accounting.
• Maintaining financial procedures consistent with Treasury and other directives.
• Conduct necessary training to keep the team’s skills and knowledge up to date.
• Ensure proper tax interviews with clients and collect necessary documents.
• Review corporate and personal income tax returns to ensure accuracy.
• Assisting line managers in establishing a culture of high performance, professionalism and continuous improvement that encourages individuals and teams to identify opportunities and solutions to improve service delivery.
• Contributing to providing effective leadership to foster initiative, promote and build effective teams, achieve outcomes and meet deadline.
• Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule.
• Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, and/or payroll.
• Be the contact point in the company on tax matters including corporation taxes, withholding taxes, VAT, excise duties and customs.
• Supervises and participates in the preparation of financial statements and reports.
• Enters or directs the entry and maintenance of accounting records to show receipts and expenditures.
• Maintains general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, and operating expenses, and insurance records
• Directs, conducts, and/or participates in cost analyses and rate studies.
• Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures
• Analyze revenues, commissions and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis.
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets schedules
• Supervising accounting staff.
• Make sure that the business complies with the regular and periodic tax payments, reporting information and fulfilling any other requirements of ZRA
• Represent the Company in front of the tax authorities and negotiate over the matters concerning tax payments.

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
• Degree in Accounts or Finance
• Full CA Zambia, ACCA/CIMA
• Must have a minimum of 7-8 years’ relevant experience in accounting, tax management and team mentoring
• Must have 3-4 proven experience in tax and audits at Senior/Middle Management level
• Must have a good working relations with Statutory Bodies (i.e. ZRA, NAPSA)
• Experience working with an Accounting/Tax firm is an advantage.
• Excellent verbal and written English
• Ability to take initiative and work in teams
• Ability to work under pressure and pay attention to detail
• Must be a member ZICA
