Career Opportunity
• The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers flexible, sustainable and effective solutions in political, economic and social change processes. Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as public and private bodies in Germany and abroad. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and governments of other countries. In the Water and Energy portfolio of GIZ, the EU is an important commissioning partner.
• The projects in the Water and Energy Cluster address different challenges that our Zambian partners are facing, such as adaptation to climate change, accelerating access to water supply and sanitation services and improving technical skills in the water and energy sector. In order to be successful, communication is key. Communication serves to drive agendas, such as exposure of topics on e.g. international commemoration days such as world toilet day, or word rivers day. But communication is also a tool to support behavioural change processes with our target groups and to disseminate knowledge and materials.
• In this context, GIZ is seeking a suitable candidate to fill the following position:

Communication Specialist – (Lusaka based)

Main tasks and responsibilities:
Strategic Communication
• Develop a cluster Communication strategy to enhance streamlined PR across all projects within Cluster and operationalise (yearly) with projects
• Ensure visibility within different platforms according to objectives
• Ensure compliance of communications materials to comprehensive guidelines of GIZ, BMZ and EU
• Copywrite complex project information in simple language for various target groups
• Prepare bi-weekly press information
Coordination
• Coordinate and organize events as well as delegation visits together with Country Office and Projects
• Coordination of all Communication and Visibility work of all projects in the water and energy cluster
Communication for results and change
• Development of specific print and digital communication products on the basis of the specifications developed within strategy with the aim to enhance the change management strategies of the projects
• Support to develop awareness and training materials
• Support to develop advocacy campaigns with different stakeholders
Networking
• Network with Press and media in Zambia
Required Qualifications
• Preferably Masters degree in relevant field (communication, Media, Public Relations)
Professional experience
• At least 5 years of experience in communication
• At least 3 years work experience in GIZ with EU co-funded projects as an asset
• Work experience with different communication media (text, digital, photo, video)
• Experience in the development of training material and / or advocacy campaigns

Other knowledge and additional competences:
• Cooperative and creative mindset and ability to work under high pressure
• Highly motivated to work in a multicultural environment.
• Excellent verbal and written English language skills.
• Self-motivated, organized and pro-active team player, able to work independently with excellent output.
• Proven record in strategic communication, strong writing skills and digital media presence

The successful candidate will be expected to start employment with GIZ, on a fixed term contract.
