JOB DETAILS:
Reporting to the Country Director, the overall duty of the Country Coordinator is to oversee and manage the daily operations, administrative duties and partnerships of Empowering Farmers Foundation in Zambia. The role focuses on promoting sustainable agricultural practices, improving livelihoods, managing resources and staff, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and enhancing food security through collaboration with local stakeholders, government agencies and international partners. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of the agriculture sector and passion for driving impactful change in rural communities.
Key Responsibilities
Team Management and Capacity Building
• Supervise and mentor in country staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
• Build the capacity of local teams and partners in programs implementation, reporting, and technical areas.
• Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance work environment.
Financial and Operational Management
• Support the country Finance team to manage program budgets, ensuring efficient and transparent use of resources.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor regulations, and national laws. Stakeholder Engagement and Representation
• Support the country director in maintaining relationships with government agencies, donors, NGOs, farmer groups, private sector actor’s and local communities.
• Foster partnerships with relevant stakeholders to enhance program impact and sustainability.
• Represent the Country Director at national and regional forums, conferences, and meetings when required to.
Resource Mobilization and Fundraising
• Support the country director in Identifying funding opportunities and contribute to proposal development to secure financial resources for agricultural programs.
• Develop strategic partnerships with donors and other funding agencies.
• Manage budgets and ensure transparent and efficient use of funds in collaboration with the programs and finance country team.
• Support in development of reports on program’s performance and impact to donors and stakeholders.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
• Oversee the development and implementation of robust monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks.
• Ensure accurate, compliant and timely reporting to donors, partners, and organizational leadership.
• Promote adaptive learning by identifying lessons learned and integrating them into future projects.
• Conduct regular field visits to assess projects progress, identify challenges, and provide solutions.
Qualifications and Skills Essential Qualifications
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, International Development, Project Management or a related field.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in program management in the agriculture sector, preferably with an NGO setting. Demonstrated experience in managing medium to large scale donor funded projects and multi disciplinary teams. Strong knowledge of sustainable agriculture practices, value chains and rural development challenges.
• Proven ability to develop partnerships and engage with diverse stakeholders including government agencies, donors and community based organizations.
• Experience in fundraising, proposal writing and resource mobilization.
Technical Skills
• Expertise in agricultural development, food security, and climate smart practices.
• Strong understanding of M&E tools, methodologies and frameworks.
• Proficiency in financial management and budgeting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (additional local language skills is an asset).
• Proficiency in project management tools and software Soft Skills
• Strong leadership, organizational and team management capabilities.
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in diverse cultural contexts.
• Problem solving and decision making abilities under pressure.
Working Conditions
The role entails frequent travel within Zambia to project sites and occasional regional travel as required.
