Creative Project Coordinator
The Twaabane Creative Centre, which works hand-in-hand with the Tongabezi Trust School, is seeking a new, dynamic Creative Project Coordinator to join our team in 2022. We are based in the heart of the Simonga community. In 2022, we are strengthening and further developing the programmes at the centre, starting with our current Textile Studio. The Creative Project Coordinator role will ensure the effective implementation of Twaabane’s artisanal product design and production, and strong integration of the local community. The role is broad and includes line management of project staff, overseeing vocational training programmes and developing a unique brand and vision for the Twaabane Centre. The Creative Project Coordinator lives on-site and is also responsible for hosting guests and partners at the Centre.
Reports to: Development Manager
Required qualifications and experience:
• Strong creative and design skills
• At least 3 years of experience in design and/or product development
• Experience with project management and with line-managing others
• Experience with branding and marketing
• Understand the importance of quality skills development projects
• Have a sharp eye for detail and quality assurance
• Have a passion for community development and the artisan sector in Zambia and internationally
• Excellent written English
• Excellent computer literacy
Job Description:
Creative Product Development and Retail
• Work with artisanal trainers and tailors to design products for the textile studio, incorporating both Zambian and International design elements
• Research current gaps in the market for high-quality products in demand
• Establish a core product range
• Take a keen interest in the artisanal environment in Zambia, attend exhibitions, conferences etc. to keep abreast of the market
• Design unique product labelling and packaging
• Develop strong partnerships with local and national lodges, craft markets, etc
• Ensure ethical and environmental elements are considered at all stages
• Work with the Development Manager to propose pricing guidelines, sales pricing and budgets
Branding, Marketing and Communication
• Work with the Development Manager, Twaabane team and community to develop the brand concept and values that underpin products and outputs
• Ensure high quality, relevant content is created in line with data protection policies for social media platforms and updates
• Assist the Development Manager with regular updates to donors, the board of trustees and stakeholders
• Establish and maintain the Twaabane Centre Shop and Gallery space
• Set up and conduct tourist and visitor tours with lodge guests and retail buyers
Training
• Oversee the smooth-running of current and future skills development projects at the centre
• Set and ensure that training milestones are met
• Manage the trainers, ensure high-quality training is delivered and provide feedback
• Ensure training materials and curriculums are current, accurate and effective
• Recruit trainers as required throughout the projects
Project Management
• Oversee production within the Textile Studio
• Develop quality assurance processes
• Establish and manage materials sourcing and procurement processes – ensure competitive prices
• Ensure timely delivery of all product orders
• Establish the pricing policy
• Maintain excellent records, including production targets, attendance and performance
• With the Development Manager, review projects and suggest improvements
Community and School
• Be the School and Community Liaison officer for the Centre
• Assist the Guidance Counsellor to run the Community Empowerment Groups
• Develop strong partnerships with the school and community leaders
• Recruit community members into the Twaabane projects
Other
• Regularly update the Development Manager on the progress of projects
• Regular reporting of Monitoring and Evaluation data for the projects
• One-to-ones with line-managed staff, including professional development and reviews
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Ensure that all work is in line with the centre’s policies
