JOB DETAILS:
Our client, an NGO that works to support the creation of an enabling environment that incentivizes productive investments in trade, agriculture, energy, eco-tourism and sustainable natural resource management, is looking for a Gender Specialist to join their team on a contract basis.
The Gender Specialist will be responsible for advancing gender equality within the Project. The Specialist will focus on addressing gender-specific hurdles in the Zambian business enabling environment, promoting women’s empowerment, and fostering equitable practices to create a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Provide technical guidance, resources, and tools on integrating gender, inclusive development, and conflict sensitivity in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of BEP activities.
Support Policy and Legal Reform:
• Facilitate the advocacy for legal protection and reforms that promote gender equality in the business enabling environment.
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to address discriminatory laws and regulations affecting women in business.
Visibility and Representation:
• Facilitate the strengthening of the visibility and capacity of women entrepreneurs and business leaders.
• Facilitate the amplification of collective voices through advocacy and networking initiatives.
Procurement and Employment Practices:
• Work with the Government of Zambia (GRZ) to improve gender- responsive practices in employment and procurement.
• Encourage fair representation of women-owned businesses in public
contracts.
Cultural Transformation:
• Collaborate with business leadership structures to foster a gender- inclusive organizational culture.
• Assist organizations in developing training programs in gender awareness and sensitivity.
• Advise organizations on developing gender-sensitive policies that challenge gender stereotypes and promote diversity through collective trainings and providing gender-specific tools to the private-
sector.
Community Engagement:
• Partner with rural and small-town organizations to address gender- inequality issues regarding business opportunities for women and the youth.
• Design targeted interventions that empower women economically and socially in rural and small communities.
• Report on the current status of female/youth empowerment in the business and business enabling environment in Zambia in quarterly and annual reports.
• Prepare high quality reports, technical resources, and other products and deliverables on topics related to gender and inclusive development.
• Any other tasks that might relate to gender.

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
• Master’s Degree in Gender Studies, women’s studies, sociology, business development, international development, policies, or a related field required.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience encompassing international development, research, and evaluation, and program management required.
• Experience presenting technical content or thought stewardship to external audiences, such as through conference presentations, workshops, webinars, white papers, or journal articles required.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience working as in a role focused on gender inclusivity with a strong understanding of gender equality and women’s rights issues, including in-depth knowledge of gender, equality, and social inclusion (GESI) analysis methodologies.
• Experience in working with women in businesses, preferably trade, agriculture, tourism and/or renewable energy in relation to gender mainstreaming the business enabling environment, is an advantage.
• Experience in addressing gender concerns in national policies and regulations and collaboration with government agencies, is an advantage.
• Familiarity with donor polices, such as USAID’s Gender and Youth Development Policies, World Bank Group Gender Strategy 2024 – 2030, etc.
• Experience heading task teams to deliver client deliverables, including research, assessments, and trainings.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and facilitate discussions on sensitive gender topics.
• Proficiency in project implementation, including the ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor initiatives.
• Strong interpersonal, supervision, and written/oral communication skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
