JOB DETAILS:
Purpose
The Mine Geologist is responsible for the pit ore control duties of the Mining Department including identifying racks and minerals, making critical decisions about ore and providing geology related services to other Mine Personnel.

Key Responsibilities
The holder of this position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Be a proactive member of the Mine Production Geology team to ensure the safe operation of geological and drilling personnel, activities & equipment.
• Ensure a continuous quality ore feed to the processing plant can be achieved
• Ensuring the provision of quality logging, sampling and QAQC data from resource delineation and grade control drilling programs.
• Conduct geological mapping of the pit to compliment grade control drilling data.
• Ensure timely provision of accurate grade control models to mine planning
• Ensure quality ore mark outs and supervision of selective ore digging to minimise dilution and contamination of the ore material types.
• Control of the direct tipping, stockpiles, blend and ore feed quality to the plant
• Ongoing reconciliations to measure performance and drive continuous improvement
• Train and mentor geological technicians, miners and drillers in the geology of the deposit as it relates to their roles, and to supervise and control quality of drilling, sampling, mining and blending of ore.
• Contribute positively towards the team’s achievement of budget cost and KPI targets
• Maximise productivity and performance efficiency of the tasks undertaken in their role.
• Promote the development of innovative solutions and continuous improvement to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs
• Perform any other role as assigened by the Senior Geologist

Qualifications
• Minimum of a Full Grade 12 certificate
• Bachelor of Science (Geology) or Bachelor’s degree plus Honours in Geology, Mining Geology or equivalent

Experience
A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in production Geology

Operational Requirements
• Valid drivers’ license – Manual
• Exposure to dust, heat, noise and chemicals
• Understanding and ability to conduct and report on Industrial Hygiene requirements.
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with various levels of management and Mines Safety Department personnel.
• Firm understanding of geological systems and processes and how they integrate with mining production and mineral resource management; grade control experience is a must.
• Good working knowledge of technical software (Surpac, Datamine or Mapinfo/ Leap Frog 3D).
• Knowledge of LIMS systems would be advantageous.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• An eye for detail and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Able to work in a dynamic team environment.
• Methodical approach to everyday tasks and problem solving.
