JOB DETAILS:
• Reporting to the Project Geotechnical Engineer /Senior Mine Geologist, you will be responsible for sample collection and laboratory soil testing according to the LMC and internationally accepted standards. You will also be responsible for collection of geotechnical monitoring data as directed by the geotechnical supervisor.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
• Carry out lithological, structural, and geotechnical logging of geological and geotechnical exploration holes on the drilling site, test pit site or in the core shed on a daily basis.
• Provide technical supervision of geotechnical drilling, including standard penetration testing (SPT), falling head permeability testing, and packer testing
• Provide technical supervision of cone penetration testing (CPT)
• Understand and report key geotechnical findings that may require changes to the investigation or additional investigation
• Ensure the core is properly secured and transported to the core shed for storage or further processing
• Carry out point load testing on some selected core pieces as directed by the Senior Geotechnical Engineer
• Ensure that core samples for rock strength testing are selected and well parked in readiness for shipping to the Labs for testing
• Ensure the logging data is accurately entered into the database
• Continually improve their geotechnical skills by way of working through the geotechnical skills matrix and seeking guidance and mentorship from the Geotechnical Coordinator
• Structural data interpretation using Dips software
• Ensure geotechnical logging tools are maintained
• Ensure effective communication with delegate prior to departure from site.
• Be visible in the workplace

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
• Grade 12 Certificate
• BSc in Mining /Geology/Geotechnical engineering
• Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia
• Experience with geology/geotechnical logging
• Ability to communicate effectively across all levels
• Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications
• Zambian Driver’s license
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent
• Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
