Job description:
Overall Job Purpose
The role is a mechanical supervisory function focused on the direct execution and technical oversight of mechanical aspects within Mine Maintenance major outage projects. The Mechanical Projects Supervisor leads mechanical maintenance teams and ensures work is completed according to OEM specifications, engineering standards, and quality requirements. He/She provides technical guidance on mechanical systems and tasks to execute on the equipment under major maintenance. The Supervisor has strong mechanical maintenance knowledge and practical experience in heavy industrial equipment maintenance. He/She will ensure proper mechanical maintenance standards are maintained and lead the day-to-day activities of mechanical teams during outages.

Specific Job Responsibility
Budget and Initiation
• Reviews mechanical work packages and job plans to ensure technical feasibility and resource requirements are properly identified
• Provides input on mechanical trade requirements and technical constraints during project planning
• Participates in scope reviews to ensure maintenance considerations are properly addressed
• Assists in identifying potential risks and execution challenges
• Reviews OEM requirements and specifications for mechanical equipment maintenance

Project Plan Evaluation
• Reviews technical aspects of mechanical work plans and provides feedback on execution requirements
• Assesses mechanical trade capabilities and skill requirements for assigned work
• Identifies potential mechanical challenges and execution risks in the field
• Reviews mechanical tooling, lifting equipment, and precision measurement requirements
• Ensures work areas are properly prepared for mechanical maintenance activities
• Participates in technical planning meetings to address mechanical methodology
• Reviews alignment, tolerance, and clearance specifications.

Project Execution
• Leads and supervises mechanical maintenance crews and contractors during project execution
• Ensures proper use of mechanical procedures, torque sequences, and assembly standards
• Monitors mechanical quality and technical compliance during execution
• Provides technical guidance on mechanical troubleshooting and assembly techniques
• Manages mechanical crew assignments and work progression
• Ensures proper use of precision measurement tools and mechanical equipment
• Conducts mechanical inspections during critical phases of work
• Reports progress and technical issues to the Coordinator
• Maintains discipline in following mechanical maintenance processes
• Oversees precision alignment work and quality checks
• Ensures Safety standards are met all the time during execution of the project

Commissioning and Closing
• Oversees mechanical aspects of equipment recommissioning
• Ensures quality of completed mechanical work meets OEM specifications and planned scope
• Provides technical input for mechanical completion documentation
• Participates in mechanical performance testing and verification
• Documents mechanical lessons learned from execution
• Ensures proper equipment run-in and monitoring.

Safety Leadership
• Ensures strict compliance with mechanical safety procedures and isolation standards
• Conducts daily toolbox talks focusing on technical hazards and controls
• Performs field safety observations particularly around lifting and rigging activities
• Ensures proper use of specific PPE and safety equipment
• Monitors contractor compliance with safety standards
• Addresses mechanical safety concerns immediately in the field
• Maintains high safety standards for pressure systems and stored energy
Leadership
• Provides direct supervision and guidance to shift crews
• Maintains mechanical quality standards and work practices
• Addresses performance issues at the mechanical crew level
• Promotes teamwork between mechanical and other trade groups
• Provides hands-on demonstration of mechanical techniques
• Maintains effective communication between crews and management
• Builds strong working relationships with execution teams
• Encourages mechanical skill development within crews

Experience required to perform in this job
Essential
• A minimum of 5 years’ maintenance experience in mobile maintenance within open-pit mining operations with experience across all major equipment types
• Proven project experience within the mining industry.
• Experience working in both maintenance execution and reliability roles
• A high standard of computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Office
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization
• Experience with ultra-class mining equipment preferred
• Experience with standard maintenance reliability processes – five whys, FMECA etc.
• Extensive experience with the use of computerized maintenance management systems – Pronto (preferred).

Qualifications
Preferred
• BSc. or equivalent in Mechanical/ Industrial Engineering or similar
• Formal Project Management Certification
• A qualification in Data Analysis is an advantage.
• Advanced MS Projects, and Excel/ Power BI Skills
• All certififcates must be certified by ZAQA
