Overall Job Purpose
• Reporting to the Area Supervisor, the 860/960 Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Haul Truck to haul material to designated locations.

Specific Job Responsibility
The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include;
• Wear correct PPE at all times.
• Access and egress, always maintain three points of contact.
• No person is allowed to climb on the machine while it’s in motion.
• Seat belts must be worn at all times.
• Only approved and appointed permit holders may operate equipment for which their permits are valid.
• A thorough Pre-Start Inspection must be completed before use.
• A walk around check shall be completed before the operator boards the machine.
• Trucks must approach the loading area in a clockwise direction to maintain vision with the loading machine as much as possible.
• Truck operators are to remain in the cabin while being loaded, unless oversize rock is being placed in the dump body.
• Do not use the safety berm as a stop.
• Ensure a minimum distance of two-truck widths is maintained between trucks when more than one truck is dumping at any given time
• If you observe any cracks on the tip head or a failure, tip 5m short of the crack / failure, report to your supervisor immediately.
• Operate mobile plant equipment and keeping it clean and in good working order.
• Safe and efficient operation of 860/960 Haul Truck.
• Being on time to avoid standing time.
• Completing and submitting pre-start check list.
• Report any A class hazard.
• Follow all assignments from dispatch.
• Report any unsafe act or conditions.
• Ensure daily KPI’s are achieved.
• Comply to all Safe Working Procedures established by the company.
• Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Operate 860/960, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings.
• Utilizing Trolley assist.
• Report for work fit and well rested.
• Protecting the tyres by not reversing up the muck pile and not driving over spillage.
• Following all traffic rules and road signs.
• Any other tasks as may be delegated upon by the supervisor.

Job Specific Competencies
• Must possess knowledge on how to do the pre- start on the machine.
• Must be able to identify defects.
• Must be conversant with controls/parts and their functions on a machine
• Must possess knowledge about machine shut down and emergency procedures
• Must be able to operate a two-way radio and be able to use of modular system.

Experience required to perform in this job
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in an open pit set up.
• 860/960 Operating Permit.

Qualifications
• Full Grade 12 Certificate
• Machine specific training and certification.
