Job Description
Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Safety Superintendent – FS (Fixed Term Contract) to join the versatile Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Department under Mineral Resource Management – FS Section. Reporting to the Occupation Health and Safety Manager – FS, you will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the health and safety, and risk management aspects of the Mineral Resource Management – FS project. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Support the implementation of the project’s Health and Safety Management Plan
• Ensure adequate implementation of Barrick’s Health and Safety Standards and Procedures amongst all project contractors and stakeholders
• Track project’s Health and Safety performance indicators
• Support the management of safety-related trainings and skills development programs and initiatives
• Prepare health and safety information, reports and track implementation of action and improvement plans based on trends and analysis
• Support the Health and Safety Manager responsibilities acting in delegation of authority upon request or on the project needs.
• Ensure adequate implementation and coordination of emergency, occupational health, industrial hygiene and environmental teams in the scope of the project.
• Propose, promote, develop and implement safe working practices addressing project- specific risks
• Monitor and support the efficient operation of the FS team as aligned to LMC Site OH&S Requirements.
• Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures, and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
• Ensure the development and maintenance of up-to-date job procedures for all tasks performed within the FS sections and report any gaps to OH&S Manager for site alignment.
• Ensure personnel are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures applying within FS in liaison with the OH&S Department.
• Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives and implement change as directed by the Management team
• Actively promote, monitor, and enforce compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
• Promote the development of the project safety culture based on Barrick’s values, principles, policies and standards, ensuring adequate implementation of initiatives, plans and systems.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
• Full Grade Twelve Certificate
• Professional degree in engineering, occupational health and safety
• A minimum of Ten (10) years post qualification experience with at least Five (5) years in mining development construction projects environment and Five (5) years in a senior health and safety role.
• Working knowledge of OH&S systems, preferable ISO45001:2018, NOSA based
• Knowledge in incident investigation methodology such as ICAM, TapRoot, Fishbone and 5 WHYs
• Demonstrated success as an effective leader.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
• High level understanding of relevant legislation governing Mining and Construction Industries.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word)
• Good communication skills
• Must have a valid Driver’s Licence.
• Fluent English is a must.
