JOB DETAILS:
Acid plant consists the following major segments, Gas Cleaning / Cooling, Oxidation / Strong acid, Cooling Tower and Acid Storage Tanks sections.

Key Responsibilities
• This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Provide direction and control of the shift. Supervising control room operators and other operators.
• Ensure that shift throughput targets are achieved.
• Ensure operating procedures are strictly followed.
• Ensure that the acid produced is within the set quality parameters.
• Ensure effluent and strong acid is consistently supplied to KMP process plant.
• Manage reagents stocks i.e scaletrol, sodium silicate, and water treatment chemicals.
• Ensure that the critical operating parameters are kept under control.
• Prepare, issue, close and cancel work permits.
• Monitor and interpret process data via the plant process historian system (PI).
• Actively seek more information and assistance from other sources as required to diagnose and correct any problems with operating equipment and processes (e.g. maintenance, metallurgists).
• Ensure that routine weekly tasks such as Preheater Tests are done.
• Maintain safety, housekeeping, and discipline in the section.
• Monitor and interpret assay results from process streams.
• Liaise closely with his counterpart in the primary and secondary smelting sections as well as KMP process plant and maintenance teams.
• Understand and identify all relevant plant equipments, process control & emergency systems; be able to explain these clearly to others
• Provide training and development opportunities for all direct reports on an ongoing basis.
• Assist in the cold and hot commissioning of the acid plant.
• Other duties as directed by the Senior Supervisor or the Superintendent.

Qualifications
• Minimum Diploma in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering or Equivalent.
Experience
• At least 5 years of supervisory experience in sulphuric acid plant, copper smelting, or hydrometallurgical plants.

Operational Requirements
Should have a good understanding of the:
• Equipment in the area of supervision, its purpose and how it operates
• Process Flow Sheet in the area of supervision
• Way in which the Process is controlled in the area of supervision.
