Job description:
Responsible for identifying staff training development needs and for planning, organising and conducting appropriate training and assessments for engineering and operational employees across site in order to achieve maximum competence, maintain and improve efficiency of Mechanical maintenance and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Liaise with relevant sections within the engineering department to determine mechanical training and development needs in line with KMP’s short and long term operational needs
• Liaise with planning section to determine training needs related to machine breakdowns and defects.
• Review and Determine needs and competence levels of employees.
• Consolidate a Mechanical technical training plan to meet all operational and maintenance needs and deliver training to bridge gaps in employee’s skills and knowledge.
• Develop mechanical training packages (both theory and practical) according to identified training needs and maintain them to acceptable standards.
• Updating existing Mechanical training packages
• Select appropriate training methods or activities for implementation.
• Liaise with trainee’s supervisors on training schedules and ensure timely delivery of training.
• Assess/evaluate instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on learners’ skills and KPIs through Planned Tasks Observations
• Carry out training needs identification during breakdowns, shutdowns and planned maintenance jobs to formulate training programs in order to close the gap (lacking skills and knowledge) in employees
• Maintain training records and training matrices for all trainees in the approved Training system
• Develop and maintain productive relations and effective communication with stakeholders to establish training needs and report on training progress.
• Practices safe work habits and follow general safety procedures
• Ensure that company procedures and safety regulations are re-enforced in order to minimise accidents and optimise production.
• Maintaining an appropriate reporting Schedule as determined by the Senior Specialist, Technical
• Any other duties as may be reasonably requested of by the supervisor in line with effective operations of the Training Department.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Minimum Technician or Technology Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Technical Teacher Certificate / Diploma in Teaching Methodology from recognised institution
• A minimum of 5 years’ Mechanical work experience in Mining Industry
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in the Training and Development field preferably in a Mining environment

• Good ability to report and interact with senior maintenance and operations leadership effectively
• Ability to identify and suggest changes to maintenance and operational practices
• Good at implementing changes in training practice
• Systematic monitoring and assessment skills

• Exposure to dust, heat, noise and chemicals
• Skilled user of Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
