The Chiwarà Project
Chiwarà is looking for a motivated Construction Specialist with degree in architecture or engineering and at least 3 years of experience to join our team in remote from Zambia (residents only).
Location of work
Construction activities will take place in Ndola, Copperbelt Province, Zambia.
List of expected responsibilities
In execution of this assignment the candidate will work under the direction, technical guidance and supervision of the reference group, performing the following tasks:
• Field visits to support a detailed assessment of the specific requirements including final site selection, and a relevant schedule of activities;
• Support the preparation of design and drawings based on local construction techniques, knowledge and materials;
• Support the development of preliminary concept design, site layouts and preliminary cost estimate
• Support the preparation of tender dossier including specifications and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) required for procurement of the works;
• Support tender administration, evaluation of bids and the selection of successful contractors;
• Support answering bidder enquiries helping the team contextualizing the project’s needs;
• Facilitate and participate in site visits by bidders where this will be required;
• Support the preparation of works contract and oversee it’s signing off;
• Facilitate the site hand over to the successful tenderer;
• Construction supervision to inspect the construction works on a regular (monthly or as agreed) basis to ensure quality and compliance with the designs and other specifications
Expected duration of works
5 to 6 months, from June 2023 to December 2023. The duration includes the design and supervision of construction works
Eligibility criteria
Only candidates in possess of the following criteria will be considered (mandatory):
• Be national of Zambia or resident in the country;
• Should have minimum bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Civil/Structural Engineer;
• Properly licensed/registered in their field of required expertise (attach prove)
• Minimum 3 years’ work experience;
• Fluency in spoken and written English is required;
Qualification and experience
Additional criteria for the selection are, but not limited to, the following:
• Must be resident in Zambia and available to travel to Ndola at least twice per month during the course of the contract.
• Experience in design and supervision of project in rural communities, preferable with a focus in training center and automotiva workshop design and development, will be an added advantage.
• Experience of work in Ndola will be an added advantage.
• Working experience with international environments.
• Good communication skills and ability to work in an intercultural environment.
