JOB DETAILS:
The Charter Cities Institute (CCI) is a non-profit organization based in Washington D.C and Zambia, dedicated to empowering new cities with better governance required to crowd-in investments, create jobs, and ultimately, lift tens of millions of people out of poverty. Our goal is to build the ecosystem for charter cities by leveraging the international development community and working with our local partners to create new cities with special jurisdiction to form a new governance system to address rapid population growth and urbanization, unemployment, and poverty.

CCI has recently established a regional office in Zambia to advance its mission in Africa. The objective of the office is to work collaboratively with the Zambian Government and key stakeholders to create an enabling environment for establishing charter cities in Zambia by leveraging the existing Multi-facility Economic Zone program. The regional office will also serve as a launchpad for further operations in Africa to empower African cities legally, financially, and technically to meet the objectives of Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals through the Charter Cities African Action Plan (CCAAP).

We are hiring a full-time Policy and Research Assistant to complement and support the work of the regional office. The Policy and Research Assistant will work with the Zambian team to build the coalition necessary to make charter cities a reality. CCI is a small team; thus, the Policy and Research Assistant will be expected to handle a range of tasks and multiple projects. CCI greatly values a diverse and open, engaging office culture. Our staff is intellectually curious and enjoys exploring a wide variety of topics.
