Overall Job Purpose
Ensure FQM Trident complies to all relevant legislation and provide guidance in-relation to health / safety management.
Furthermore, the Safety Manager is required to work pro-actively with all members of the management and departmental leadership teams, to establish and maintain a system which promotes a culture of safe working practise.
This is to also be supported through leading, assisting and guiding all Safety Departmental Superintendents and Specialists with critical projects and tasks.
Specific Job Responsibility
• Develop, communicate and implement systems, which assist in the minimisation of harm to people, property and process.
• Preparation and implementation of opex and capex budgets.
• Implementation and compliance to FQM Trident safety programs.
• Develop strategies, plans and systems, to ensure targets / objectives are appropriately determined and implemented.
• Identify behaviour based training (Think!) needs, and ensure that FQML safety philosophy is maintained.
• Ensure investigations are conducted with quality and actions are determined / implemented, to minimize risk of event recurrence as far as reasonably practicable.
• Support the personal development of leadership and safety team members, to ensure they have the knowledge to perform work to the highest standard(s).
• Evaluation and review of FQM Trident’s health and safety management system – Effective implementation and opportunities for improvement.
• Support management and leadership teams, through:
• Provision of specialist advise
• Coaching and other practicable support
• Assist managers in the development and implementation of processes / systems, to meet specific requirements.
• Provide visible leadership to the safety (Health, Safety and Emergency Services) team and promote a culture of safety aligned to the FQML values.
• Support, lead, build a safe and empowered culture based on FQML and FQM Trident values, addressing our key safety and critical risk exposures.
• Developing a resource plan, which reflects the safety needs of FQM Trident, as well as processes to ensure these needs are met.
• Responsibility for the implementation of Contractor Safety Management System and other critical hazard management programs.
• Ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of all health and safety performance reports.
• Monitoring the implementation of safety improvement projects and cost reduction initiatives.
Job Specific Competencies
• Experience in the mining industry, with commitment toward health / safety management and focus on quality is essential.
• Strong understanding and application of legislative / regulatory requirements in Zambia.
• High level awareness and understanding of injury management processes
• Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and build effective relationships at all levels
• Ability to develop and effectively lead a high-performance team
• Strategic planning and project management skills with an understanding of budget administration
• Well-developed leadership, coaching and facilitation skills

Experience required to perform in this job
• 9 years in the mining industry, in any field with demonstrated commitment to safety management, of which a minimum of 5 years should be at senior management level
• Prior experience in a safety profession/position is advantageous.
Qualifications
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety Management or any field related to the mining industry.
• Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
• Safety tertiary education / education is advantageous
