Role Overview: We are looking for a passionate Agronomist Intern to join our team and support smallholder farmers in adopting best farming practices. The intern will play a critical role in training farmers, conducting field visits, and implementing climate-smart agricultural techniques to enhance productivity and sustainability. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong understanding of sustainable farming and the ability to work closely with farmers to improve their yields and income.
Key Responsibilities:
• Train smallholder farmers on best farming practices, sustainable agriculture, and climate-smart techniques.
• Conduct regular farm visits to assess crop conditions and provide tailored agronomic advice.
• Assist farmers in implementing improved soil management, water conservation, and pest control methods.
• Monitor and report on crop performance, identifying challenges and recommending solutions.
• Support the collection of data on farming activities to improve decision-making and market access.
• Work closely with Gaphen Projects’ team to develop training materials and agricultural extension programs.
• Develop blog posts on best farming techniques
• Stay updated on the latest agricultural innovations and share insights with farmers.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Completed a degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Crop Science, or a related field.
• Passionate about working with smallholder farmers and improving rural livelihoods.
• Knowledge of climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farming practices.
• Strong communication and training skills, with the ability to simplify technical concepts for farmers.
• Hands-on experience in farm management or extension services is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and travel to rural areas.
• Basic proficiency in data collection and reporting tools.
