Since 2019, we have been at the forefront of the renewable energy movement in Zambia, offering Pay-as-You-Go (PAYG) solar home systems that provide affordable, clean energy to homes in the greater district of Mumbwa.
Our strategic vision involves venturing into the productive use of renewable energy to support the dairy production sub-sector in the greater Chibombo district. As part of this vision, we are establishing Community Energy Hubs in key locations, including Shimukuni, Malambanyama, and Keembe, to further empower our communities.
Little Sun Zambia Limited is on a mission to achieve universal access to clean energy. With a strong foundation in the PAYG business for solar home systems, we are expanding our transformative initiatives and venturing into the productive use of renewable energy with the establishment of Community Energy Hubs for productive use.
Job Purpose
The Technical Support assists the technical department in maintaining and optimizing solar-powered systems for milk processing. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, training staff, and ensuring operational continuity. The role requires hands-on involvement to ensure equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and contribute to sustainable energy solutions.
Responsibilities
• Performing corrective and preventive maintenance on refrigeration and other technical equipment to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability;
• Conducting routine inspections of energy hub equipment to ensure optimal functionality;
• Documenting and reporting any required repairs or component replacements to the Technical Operations Manager;
• Notifying the direct manager of any unsafe working conditions to maintain a secure work environment;
• Assisting with the installations, calibrations, and configurations of newly acquired equipment, ensuring proper setup and functionality;
• Maintaining detailed records of maintenance activities using checklists and logbooks to facilitate report generation.
• Troubleshooting technical issues and faults, providing timely resolutions to minimize disruptions;
• Delivering technical training sessions at energy hubs on various technical topics to enhance operational knowledge;
• Participating in all training sessions organized by the technical department to build expertise;
• Contributing to the creation and development of technical documentation to support processes and operations;
• Assisting in designing and sizing solar energy systems to meet specific project requirements;
• Coordinating with external vendors and suppliers during procurement processes to ensure timely and cost-effective solutions;
• Traveling to various hub locations and other required destinations to support operations, technical work, and engage with stakeholders as necessary.
Requirements
• Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field;
• Hands-on experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of refrigeration, solar energy systems, and other technical equipment;
• Proficiency in using tools and diagnostic equipment for system checks and repairs;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail to ensure timely and accurate resolutions of technical faults;
• Ability to document maintenance work and create technical reports;
• Excellent communication skills for delivering technical training and collaborating with teams and vendors;
• Flexibility to work in rural setups and adaptability to various working conditions;
• Ability to work collaboratively with the technical department and external vendors;
• Awareness of safety protocols to report unsafe working conditions and promote a secure work environment;
• Willingness to participate in training sessions organized by the technical department to enhance skills and knowledge.
