Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager/Assistant Manager with a strong background in the mining industry, particularly with Chinese firms. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of Zambian labor laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Oversee the recruitment process, including shortlisting candidates, conducting preliminary interviews, and arranging final interviews with Heads of Departments.
2. Coordinate the employee onboarding process, including conducting orientation sessions and preparing onboarding materials.
3. Manage employee records, both physical and electronic, ensuring accurate, up-to-date information, confidentiality, and compliance with data protection regulations.
4. Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, representing the company in labor-related disputes as needed (e.g., NAPSA, NHIMA, and PAYE).
5. Discuss employee rights with unions, management, and stakeholders, participating in union negotiations when necessary.
6. Manage employee time and attendance, and administer payroll using an integrated payroll package.
7. Submit statutory returns (e.g., NAPSA, NHIMA, and PAYE).
8. Maintain leave records, track attendance, and process employee benefits.
9. Respond to HR-related inquiries from employees and managers, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
10. Manage the renewal of company and employee memberships and licenses with the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) and Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
11. Support the implementation of HR policies, procedures, and programs, particularly in handling disciplinary actions, grievances, and general HR issues.
12. Offer advice and guidance on best HR practices and company policies to support decision-making by other leaders within the company.
13. Issue employment contracts.
14. Prepare HR reports and documentation as needed.
15. Handle employee offboarding processes, including conducting exit interviews and collecting company assets.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the mining industry, preferably with a Chinese firm.
3. Demonstrable experience in HR administration and operations roles.
4. Proficient knowledge of payroll systems; additional proficiency in Sage, QuickBooks is an added advantage.
5. In-depth knowledge of Zambian labor laws and regulations, particularly in the mining industry.
6. Experience in processing work permits is an added advantage.
7. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and integrity.
8. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
