JOB DETAILS:
• The Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP) is a non-governmental, non-profit field-based organization- dedicated to conserving large carnivores and ecosystems in Zambia and the broader region. Our mission is to conserve Zambia’s large carnivores and the ecosystems they reside in through science, action and strengthening local leadership. We operate in remote and challenging field environments in and around South Luangwa National Park, and our fleet of vehicles is vital to our work. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanic to join our South Luangwa team and manage the maintenance and repair of our vehicle fleet.

Job Summary:
• The Mechanic will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and safety of our fleet of vehicles, which are essential for our conservation efforts in remote areas. This position requires a dedicated and highly skilled mechanic with experience in maintaining and repairing a variety of vehicles used in field operations. He/she is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our workshop, managing two assistant mechanics, and ensuring the efficient and effective repair and maintenance of vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Duties:
• Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues on a variety of vehicles, especially 4×4 off road vehicles including Land Rover, Perentie, and Toyota models.
• Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes, brake repairs, and tire replacements.
• Perform engine and transmission repairs as needed.
• Ensure all work is performed efficiently and to high-quality standards.
• Perform vehicle recovery in the event of a breakdown in the field.
Workshop Management:
• Monitor workshop operations to ensure timely and high-quality repairs and maintenance.
• Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, and work with the Camp Coordinator and Stock Manager to reorder supplies as necessary.
• Ensure a safe and clean working environment, following all safety protocols and regulations.
• Maintain service records and documentation accurately.
Training:
• Train ZCP team members on how to perform basic maintenance, mechanical diagnosis, and basic repairs in the field.
• Assist in the training of new drivers for basic and off-road driving.

Qualifications:
• At least 5 years of proven experience as a vehicle mechanic, with expertise in diagnosing and repairing various 4×4 vehicle makes and models, specifically Land Rovers and off-road vehicles.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and tools.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
• Relevant certifications and licenses.
• Valid driver’s license with off-road experience.
