Job Description
Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Superintendent – Engineering to join the versatile Engineering Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Capital and Projects Manager, you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the business so as to provide Engineering governance, compliance and guidance that support the operations to achieve production targets safely at lowest life cycle cost and effective Management support to the Engineering Manager and the Lumwana Management Team.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
• Safely maintain assets so as to meet all Zambian regulation and best practice, with integrity and consideration to environmental aspects
• The development of skills, standards, and practices within the engineering maintenance team
• Manage costs within budget and develop opportunity for cost reduction while maintaining or improving compliance
• Work closely with Operations Departments to understand priorities and adapt plans accordingly
• Ensure critical controls and verifications for managing the assets are in place and effective.
• Ensure all department personnel are adequately inducted in their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures applying at Lumwana.
• Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives and implement change as directed by the General Manager.
• Hold monthly safety meetings with department personnel and ensure the agreed action plans are achieved. Regularly review the outcomes of the OH & S and Environment Governance Committee meetings.
• Develop and promote a pro-active safety culture by the identification, development, dissemination and review of safe practices and procedures and by ensuring the awareness of all departmental personnel.
• Actively promote, monitor, and enforce compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
• Ensure the department has an inspection program and monitor program compliance and inspection feedback monthly.
• Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company and statutory requirements and all recommended corrective actions are completed.
• Ensure all health and hygiene risks in the work areas are identified and controlled
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
• Minimum of 10 years mining experience focused mobile equipment and fixed plant, with 5 years at similar level or higher
• Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia
• Degree in Engineering or related discipline field.
• Demonstrated experience in large multi pit operations utilizing large-scale mining equipment
• Demonstrated experience in leading teams of people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and one that leads by example
• Demonstrated experience working with OEM’s and managing contracts
• Demonstrated experience in engineering standards, asset management, project management and cost management
• Be physically fit and be able to pass a pre-employment medical examination
• Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
• Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness
• High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia.
• Experience in managing department costs and budgeting
• Ability to be appointed into a statutory engineering role on-site
