Overview
Job Summary
The District Coordinator will oversee the implementation of project activities on the UNICEF funded project aimed at utilizing a ‘mentor mother’ model to prevent new HIV infections among pregnant and parenting adolescents and young mothers and their sexual partners in their respective districts, ensuring program delivery meets objectives and aligns with local health systems and community needs. They will work with the Ministry of Health at District level and other key stakeholders to ensure that the project goals are met in a timely, cost effective and with the highest quality. They will report directly to the Project Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
● Coordinate the delivery of program activities at the district level, including HIV prevention and SBC interventions.
● Manage the mentor mother-like model program at district, facility and community levels ensuring quality service delivery.
● Serve as the project primary contact between the community, district health offices, and the national project team.
● Facilitate recruitment, training, and mentorship support of mentor mothers and community health workers.
● Collaborate with other district level stakeholders to organize and participate in stakeholder meetings, community engagement events, and capacity-building workshops.
● Participate in the review, pretesting, and implementation of social behavioral change interventions for adolescents and young people, including for AYM and their sexual partners, to increase awareness of their risk and vulnerability to STI/HIVs and increase HIV prevention.
● Monitor the distribution and usage of SBC materials, ensuring accessibility and cultural relevance.
● Conduct regular site visits to assess program progress and provide technical support to field teams.
● Prepare and submit district-level reports and data to the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist.
● Document best practices, lessons learnt and success stories including project activity reports.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field.
● At least 5 years of experience coordinating community-based health projects.
● Familiarity with HIV prevention, SBC strategies, and district health systems.
● Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
● Fluency in local languages spoken in the respective districts is an advantage.
