Job description
The CEO will provide visionary and strategic leadership to FairMoney Zambia, ensuring the institution meets its mission of financial inclusion while maintaining regulatory compliance and sound financial performance. The CEO will be accountable for the overall management of the institution, driving growth, overseeing risk management, and upholding best practices in governance and customer service in line with the Banking and Financial Services (Microfinance) Regulations.
Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required; an MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is preferred
• At least 10-15 years of progressive experience in senior management roles within the financial services or microfinance sector
• Demonstrable experience in scaling operations and managing growth in regulated financial institutions
• Proven track record in strategic planning, financial management, risk management, and compliance
• In-depth knowledge of Zambian financial regulations and microfinance industry practices
• Prior experience in a deposit-taking environment is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of technology trends in financial services, including digital banking platforms.

Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Governance:
• Develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan to achieve sustainable growth and expand market presence.
• Ensure robust corporate governance practices, including regular board meetings, performance reviews, and compliance with the regulatory framework.
• Work closely with the Board of Directors, providing timely updates on strategy, performance, and regulatory issues.
2. Operational & Financial Management:
• Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure that all business functions are aligned with strategic objectives.
• Monitor financial performance, manage budgets, and drive profitability while maintaining sufficient capital adequacy.
• Ensure timely and accurate submission of prudential reports and financial statements to the Bank of Zambia.
• Oversee implementation of effective internal controls, risk management, and compliance systems.
3. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management:
• Ensure that the institution complies with all regulatory requirements under the Banking and Financial Services Act, the Microfinance Regulations, and related guidelines.
• Work closely with the Chief Risk Officer and Chief Compliance Officer to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, credit, and market risks.
• Serve as the primary liaison with the Bank of Zambia and other regulatory bodies, ensuring proactive communication and response to regulatory changes.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Market Development:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, investors, customers, and industry associations.
• Represent FairMoney Zambia at industry conferences, public forums, and in negotiations with strategic partners.
• Develop innovative financial products and services that meet the needs of low-income segments while ensuring responsible lending.
5. Human Capital & Organizational Development:
• Lead, mentor, and develop the senior management team, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Oversee talent management strategies, including recruitment, training, and succession planning.
• Champion ethical practices, transparency, and accountability across the organization.
6. Technology & Innovation:
• Promote the adoption of innovative digital solutions (e.g., mobile banking) to enhance operational efficiency and extend outreach.
• Ensure robust IT systems are in place to support regulatory reporting, data security, and customer service.
