JOB DETAILS:
The Community Livelihood Officer (CLO) will oversee the organisations Community Livelihoods Programs in the communities. The CLO will develop the awareness building, sustainable business development and education programs, through community engagement, training and implementing conservation agricultural practises. They will be an active representative, living and working in the community, supporting farmers, project members, health care workers and teachers. Additionally, the CLO will help to strengthen relationships between the community and local stakeholders, holding community meetings and liaising closely with the Conservation Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate monitoring, data collection, technical support to ground team and mobilization of different community groups. Engage in community meetings with village leader.
•To plan and implement conservation farming practises based on foundations for farming vision.
•To conduct community farmer meetings and training sessions
•To support the current project’s farmers and assist in establishing new farmers
•Assess and ensure farmer profits align with an appropriate loan repayment plan
•Monitor and Evaluate projects in all locations ongoing
•Ensure appropriate record keeping and data entry for all projects
•Assist in report writing and data analysis reports on project scoring and progress
•Assist in budgeting and budget reports
•Strategize ongoing work plans to strengthen community relationship between farmers and other various stakeholders
•Assist farmers and community members in building relationships with suppliers and buyers
•Stakeholder relationship management
•Build and sustain positive relationship with government line ministries, schools, small scale project farmers and community members.
•Build and sustain positive relationship with village leadership; Senior-chief, Sub-chiefs and village headmen.
Desired Skills and Attributes:
•Confident in public speaking, conducting community meetings and liaising with government and local stakeholders.
•Knowledge in conservation education and the Zambian education system
•Knowledge of FFF conservation farming and agricultural small scale business practises
•Knowledge of sustainable development and natural resource management
•Ability to patiently develop relationships over time with remote communities
•Flexibility to assist with all projects when required at various locations
•Familiarity working close to or within protected areas, bordering National Parks or in GMAs.
•Confident in reporting to local authorities through written and verbal reports.
•Knowledge in basic data collection and record keeping during field work
•Basic technological knowledge (Microsoft office excel and word, GPS, smartphone)
•Valid Zambian Drivers Licence (motorbike preferred)
•Competency with mobilising people, organising community meetings and working appropriately through local power structures to ensure information is disseminated respectfully.
•Good conflict mitigation and negotiating
•Able to translate in Kaonde to English both written and verbal.
•Origin of Kasempa District
Qualification/Requirement and Experience.
•Grade 12 Certificate
•Diploma/bachelor’s degree in education, Agriculture, Community Development, Conservation Business Management, or a related field
•2 years experience in the related field
•Experience working in a rural area with Non-profit organisations or Government in Zambia
•Experience living in basic accommodation, such as tented, with limited to no internet signal
•Kasempa district resident
