Purpose
The Coordinator, Technical Coaching: Mobile Maintenance will lead a team of technical coaches. The objective of this team is to coach and develop FQM Artisans; enhancing their technical skills, achieve a culture of high quality work and efficiency in the department. The Coordinator will have overall responsibility for managing, designing, developing, coordinating and conducting the coaching and training programs to deliver this goal in line with the People First Strategy.
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
Specific Accountabilities
• Lead the coaching team to deliver coaching and training according to the needs identified in the various sections of fleet maintenance department, using on the ‘on the job’ coaching as the primary method training.
• Create an environment of continuous learning, through the use of coaching methodologies and various instructional techniques identified via training needs assessments or observations.
• Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of coaching & training on employee skills and KPIs
• Conduct Departmental wide training needs assessment and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed
• Manage and maintain all relevant short and long term planning in line with the company’s training targets.
• Provide the required training initiatives in line with the departmental rosters to avoid work disruptions. Create a strong work relationship with all sectional heads to ensure effective staff training and development
• Develop and maintain coaching and training materials and assessments tools for the relevant technical disciplines.
• Supervise Technical Coaches and assessors to ensure that quality training and assessment is provided in line with agreed tools and methodologies.
• Implement best practice across all sections
• Ensure that material and coaching methods provided by the service provider are available to enable and improve the proficiency framework.
• Manage all people related issues in conjunction with the sectional heads and HR that may arise among the Artisans working in different technical disciplines.
• Conduct training and assessments through the agreed methodologies
• Avail training and coaching opportunities to employees and provide necessary information
• Create a coaching culture across the organisation and upskill other employees in coaching methodologies
Records
• Administrate and manage the electronic training nomination tracking and record system.
• Maintain training files for all maintenance employees.
• Organize and upload all necessary training data into a central data base.
• Ensure that records of all training and development interventions are signed off by the HoD.
• Ensure quality control over all written training documentation
• Record interventions, actions assigned and progress using the learning management tools provided by the company
Safety
• Implement and monitor the Health, Safety and Training Management System ensuring compliance to relevant Policies, Standards & Procedures
• Maintain a pro-active approach to all aspects of operational and behavioural safety and encourage teamwork within the department in line with FQMO company values
• Ensure that the focus of training is principally on safety
• Proactively confront others about safety and security violations
Coaching Team Accountabilities
• Use effective listening, assertiveness and questioning to support learners to engage with their learning plans and with assessment criteria and processes
• Champion quality and provide visible leadership ‘on-the-floor’ in FQM operations
• Use assessments and observations to identify skill gaps; create and deliver suitable interventions to address these gaps and then follow up to assess impact
• Identify high potential Artisans with ability and aspiration to progress to more senior roles and support their development
• Recognize and celebrate achievements and success in the team; provide candid feedback, engage at all levels and lead with a People First mind-set.
• Observe and provide coaching and feedback to TA’s and Supervisors on opportunities to improve their supervisory skills
Qualifications
• Grade 12 Certificate
• Minimum of Diploma in Heavy Equipment Repair or trade equivalent.
• A Degree in the relevant field of study will be an added advantage
• A formal qualification in vocational / teaching will be an added advantage
• OEM certification to Level 3/4 will be an added advantage
• Valid EIZ licence.
• Solid computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs.
Experience
• A minimum of 10-15 years’ maintenance experience in mobile maintenance within open-pit mining operations. The ideal candidate will have experience across all major equipment types (excavators, drills, trucks and auxiliary equipment)
• Ability to supervise a Team of Coaches/Trainers.
• Proven work experience as a Training/workshop Coordinator, Trainer, Training Facilitator, Technical Advisor or similar role
• Proven ability to complete full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate).
• A high standard of computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Office.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization
• Experience with Condition based maintenance and Oil Sample Analysis
• Experience with ultra-class mining equipment preferred
• Experience working for an OEM is preferred (or similar role that has given deep experience of equipment)
• Experience with standard maintenance reliability processes – five whys, FMECA etc
• Experience with the use of computerised maintenance management systems – Pronto preferred.
