Purpose
The Coordinator – Livelihood and Agriculture will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing livelihood and agriculture programs aimed at improving the economic well-being and food security of target communities. This includes promoting sustainable agricultural practices, facilitating skills development, and supporting income-generating activities to enhance community resilience and self-reliance.
Key Responsibilities
This position will require to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures, and regulations about health, safety, environment, and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Design and Implementation:
• Develop and implement livelihood and agriculture strategies that align with organisational goals and community needs.
• Identify and promote sustainable agricultural practices to improve productivity and income for smallholder farmers.
• Design and implement income-generating activities and vocational training programs tailored to the target population.
• Facilitate access to markets, financial services, and inputs to enhance the economic resilience of beneficiaries.
• Ensure integration of climate-resilient agricultural practices in programming.
2. Capacity Building and Training:
• Conduct training sessions for farmers, cooperatives, and community groups on modern farming techniques, value chain development, and entrepreneurship.
• Build the capacity of local organizations and partners to implement livelihood and agriculture programs effectively.
3. Community Engagement and Mobilisations:
• Engage with community leaders, farmers, and other stakeholders to understand their needs and ensure active participation in programs.
• Promote community-based approaches to ensure sustainability and ownership of projects.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation:
• Develop monitoring tools to track the progress and impact of livelihood and agriculture interventions.
• Conduct regular field visits to asses program implementation and provide technical support.
• Prepare and submit detailed reports on project activities, outcomes, and lessons learned.
5. Partnerships and Collaboration:
• Build and maintain relationships with relevant government agencies, NGOs, and private sector actors to strengthen program delivery.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to leverage resources and expertise for program success.
6. Budget Management:
• Assist in the development and management of project budgets, ensuring cost-effective implementation.
• Ensure compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies in the use of funds.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, Social Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in livelihood and agriculture program coordination or related roles.
• Strong knowledge of sustainable agriculture, food security, and rural development.
• Experience in designing and implementing income-generating activities and vocational training programs.
• Proven ability to work with diverse communities and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of market linkages, value chain development, and financial inclusion for farmers.
• Familiarity with climate-resilient agriculture practices and disaster risk reduction approaches.
Experience
• Experience working with international NGOs or development organizations.
• Knowledge of the local context and language(s).
• Understanding of gender-sensitive approaches in agriculture and livelihoods.
