JOB DESCRIPTION
- Actively trade in the Two-Way Quotes market daily within trading hours and pre-defined trading limits under the supervision of the Line Manager.
- Manage the fixed income blotter effectively, ensuring reconciliation of securities positions and daily revenue figures.
- Identify and exploit alternative trading revenue sources to help Ecobank Zambia maintain a strong market share in trading activities.
- Drive trading activities to achieve defined financial targets.
- Introduce new products and initiatives in the market aimed at improving overall profitability.
JOB CONTEXT
- The role requires a customer-focused and network-oriented mindset, with the ability to address or escalate issues to Line Managers to ensure strong relationships and high service quality.
- The incumbent is often required to provide reports and insights on the local Customer/Country Treasury business.
- Responsible for taking trading risks within Group and Central Bank-sanctioned limits and guidelines.
- Must be capable of analyzing market information and taking timely and appropriate actions to optimize trading profit opportunities.
Key Responsibilities Business Development & Implementation
- Ensure Ecobank maintains an active and visible presence in the market.
- Take adequate trading positions on Bonds within predetermined trading limits.
- Collaborate closely with the sales desk to maximize opportunities in the fixed income market.
- Execute trading strategies and position-taking to ensure profitability within acceptable risk, while contributing to the development of the fixed income market.
- Maintain strong relationships with counterparties and regulatory authorities such as the Bank of Zambia (BoZ), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Ministry of Finance.
- Prepare monthly bond position reports for submission to regulatory authorities.
- Cross-sell other Ecobank products to the Treasury customer base.
- Accurately post all consummated transactions related to fixed income trading.
- Conduct at least one marketing call per week.
- Stay updated on changes in business and regulatory environments.
- Comply with rules and regulations set by regulatory bodies, Ecobank’s internal controls, and the Dealer Code of Conduct.
PROCESS AND REPORTING
- Prepare the fixed income blotter on a daily basis.
- Submit the blotter error-free and on time to Troops, Audit, and the Control Group.
- Collaborate with Treasury Operations to identify and resolve any discrepancies between the blotter and system-generated transactions.
- Prepare accurate monthly bond position reports for regulatory returns.
JOB PROFILE Experience & Qualifications
- 2–5 years of trading experience in FX and fixed income, with a strong trading track record.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
- Ideally, has completed formal trading training.
Skills, Capabilities & Personal Attributes
- Customer-focused, results-driven, and exhibits leadership potential.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including fluency in relevant languages.
- Inclusive, adaptable, and sensitive to client culture.
- Highly numerate with a good understanding of the financial markets.
