Role Overview:
The Finance Officer is responsible for overseeing all financial management aspects of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and operational efficiency. The role involves leading financial planning, budgeting, risk management, and supporting strategic decision-making while maintaining strong financial governance and stakeholder relations. This position reports to The Commercial Manager.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Financial Management & Reporting:
- Oversee all financial transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Maintain financial records in line with accounting standards and company policies.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities for growth.
- Lead internal and external audit processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial documentation.
- Budgeting & Financial Planning:
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company’s goals.
- Oversee budget preparation, execution, and variance analysis, providing strategic recommendations.
- Conduct financial forecasting and scenario planning to support business decision-making.
- Implement cost control measures and financial discipline across departments.
- Support executive leadership in long-term financial planning and sustainability strategies.
- Tax & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with tax laws, regulatory requirements, and statutory obligations.
- Oversee the timely preparation and submission of tax returns and other statutory filings.
- Maintain strong relationships with financial regulators, auditors, and tax authorities.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and ensure the company adapts accordingly.
- Implement internal procedures to prevent tax-related risks and penalties.
- Risk Management & Internal Controls:
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent financial mismanagement.
- Assess financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure adherence to company financial policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct periodic financial risk assessments and recommend corrective actions.
- Work closely with internal and external auditors to maintain financial transparency.
- Cash Flow & Treasury Management:
- Oversee cash flow management to ensure operational liquidity and financial stability.
- Manage working capital, including receivables, payables, and inventory financing.
- Develop strategies to optimize financial resources and maximize investment opportunities.
- Negotiate banking facilities and maintain strong relationships with financial institutions.
- Monitor foreign exchange risks and develop hedging strategies where applicable.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Maintain relationships with banks, financial institutions, auditors, and tax authorities.
- Provide financial insights and support to executive leadership for informed decision-making.
- Represent the finance department in cross-functional initiatives and business discussions.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to align financial strategies with overall business objectives.
- Ensure effective communication of financial performance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Ensure continuous professional development and training for finance staff.
- Develop policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency within the finance department.
- Conduct performance evaluations and implement talent development initiatives.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and ethical financial management practices.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) O Levels.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or CA(Zambia).
- Associate membership with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
- Minimum eight (5) years of work experience in management or a similar position.
