Job Purpose:

To implement COMESA’s communications strategy, manage publications, and facilitate stakeholder engagement to influence the regional integration agenda, promote public and media outreach, and mobilize political and financial support.

Main Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Design and oversee the implementation of COMESA’s communications, advocacy, and outreach strategies.
  • Ensure communication about COMESA’s contributions to regional integration is relatable and visible through evidence-based stories.
  • Foster outreach partnerships with creatives and social influencers to enhance visibility.
  • Support the production of results-based communication products.
  • Leverage innovative tools, including digital and social media platforms, to enhance understanding of COMESA’s work.
  • Develop and implement COMESA’s publications strategy, including content management and production.
  • Supervise the design and maintenance of COMESA’s media platforms (website, intranet, social media).
  • Lead the development of the Communications Unit’s annual work plans and oversee the implementation of the communication strategy.
  • Manage media engagement, provide technical advice on public relations, and ensure coverage of COMESA’s work.
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder contacts for events like press conferences, interviews, and launches.
  • Contribute to knowledge networks, organize staff training on communications, and represent COMESA in various engagements.

Minimum Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, Public Relations, or related fields.
  • A postgraduate qualification in the above fields is an added advantage.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in international development, focusing on strategic communications, advocacy, campaigns, branding, and public relations.
  • Experience with regional international development organizations is an advantage.

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Expertise in developing and implementing communication strategies and advocacy campaigns.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Audition, After Effects).
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills.
