Position Overview:
The Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the safety, health, and environmental compliance of all operations within the organization. This role includes developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs, conducting regular safety inspections, and ensuring a safe and compliant working environment for all employees. The Safety Manager will work closely with management and staff to identify potential risks and implement corrective actions, while ensuring adherence to OSHA and other relevant safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Create, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs to minimize workplace risks and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
• Safety Training & Education: Conduct regular safety training sessions for employees, ensuring all staff are familiar with safety protocols, emergency procedures, and equipment handling.
• Risk Assessment and Inspections: Regularly conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections to identify and mitigate hazards in the workplace. Report findings and recommend corrective actions to management.
• Incident Reporting & Investigation: Investigate accidents, injuries, and near misses. Ensure all incidents are properly documented, and corrective actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
• Compliance & Regulations: Ensure that the company complies with all relevant safety regulations and standards. Stay updated on changes in regulations and implement necessary changes in procedures.
• Emergency Response Planning: Maintain emergency response plans for fire, medical emergencies, and other potential workplace hazards.
• Safety Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance and proper use of safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, personal protective equipment).
• Reporting & Documentation: Maintain detailed safety records and reports for inspections, incidents, and audits, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Continuous Improvement: Promote a safety culture across all levels of the organization and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety practices.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, Environmental Science, or related field
• Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in safety management, preferably within the mining industry
• Certifications: ZOHSA Certification and other relevant safety certifications preferred.
• Strong understanding of safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
Skills:
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to conduct site inspections, including walking, standing, and occasionally lifting objects.
Working Conditions:
• Regular site visits to assess workplace safety.
• Flexibility required for occasional after-hours emergencies or meetings.
