JOB DETAILS:
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization committed to the full rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks, working in collaboration with governments and local communities. Currently, we manage 23 national parks and protected areas across 13 countries, covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Job Purpose
The Senior Mechanic plays a critical supervisory role in ensuring the effective maintenance and management of all vehicles, boats, machinery, and equipment within Kafue National Park. This hands-on role supports all departments by maintaining a high operational standard for the vehicle fleet and other mechanical assets.

Key Responsibilities
• Workshop Facility Management: Oversee the maintenance of the workshop, ensuring all tools, equipment, and facilities are kept in optimal condition.
• Asset Maintenance & Management: Responsible for the servicing, repair, and preventive maintenance of heavy and light-duty vehicles, boats, aircraft, tractors, and other machinery.
• Workshop Administration: Support the Workshop Manager with maintaining records, including vehicle and equipment documentation, service history, licensing, and logbooks.
• Inventory & Stock Control: Assist in the procurement, tracking, and management of spare parts, lubricants, fuel, and other workshop-related supplies.
• Staff Supervision & Management: Lead and oversee workshop staff, assign tasks, and ensure high-quality workmanship.
• Acting Workshop Manager: Serve as the Workshop Manager in their absence, ensuring continued operations and effective management.

Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in workshop management, with expertise in boat engines, motorcycles, tractors, and both light and heavy-duty vehicles. A formal qualification in motor mechanics is an added advantage.
• Strong technical knowledge of HDV and LDV maintenance, workshop machinery, and equipment.
• Hands-on experience with heavy-duty vehicle maintenance and fleet management.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to quickly grasp new vehicle technologies.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Demonstrated leadership and staff management capabilities.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Proficiency in computer applications relevant to workshop operations.
• Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently in a remote environment with limited resources.
• Good physical health and fitness, with the ability to work long hours in physically demanding conditions.
