About The Role:
The Shaft Sinking Engineer will be responsible for the management and coordination of all engineering activities associated with the entire mine shaft infrastructure for the Mingomba Mine Project. You will be responsible for input into the prefeasibility and feasibility stages of the project through to construction and commissioning. You will also be responsible for monitoring the performance of shaft sinking contractors and reviewing variations where applicable. You will be responsible for building and fostering a collaborative relationship with all stakeholders including consultants, peer reviewers, and suppliers. You must have knowledge of hard rock mining, shaft sinking and equipping activities, drilling and blasting and shaft systems. You must advise the Company on emerging shaft technologies and collaborate with other engineering disciplines to achieve the success of Mingomba Mine.
You will join an outstanding team of geoscientists, data scientists, and software engineers. You will be a core part of the project teams, advancing the science and practice of exploration. You will help develop novel data collection and monitoring programs.
Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the responsibilities of this position include:
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team covering electrical, mechanical and civil engineering disciplines.
• Recommend the purchase of shaft equipment necessary to achieve the mine plan.
• Oversee Shaft Sinking Contractors’ work and ensure alignment to overall company objectives
• Coordinate active quality management; concrete pre-pour inspections, verticality surveys, as built surveys.
• Estimate and Lead projects to completion in a timely manner.
• Management of site mobile and fixed plant for Shaft Operations
• Ensure compliance with engineering legal requirements
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement of productivity and reliability
• Compliance with Health, Environment and Safety rules and procedures.
• Provide effective and accurate reporting.
• The ability to lead others by setting direction and building alignment.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will have
• A Master’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Atleast 15 years of experience in the management and maintenance of winders and vertical shafts including extensive knowledge of shaft maintenance and hoisting plant operation
• Held a central role on large Shaft Sinking Projects
• Qualifications or Certification in Shaft Sinking
• Detailed understanding of shaft sinking operations and demonstrate vast knowledge on support methods and basic strata control
• Detailed mining engineering skills including ventilation, rock mechanics, explosives, cost evaluation, mining methods, etc.
• Proficiency in mining software and technology
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Strong workshop management, maintenance and administration
• Strong knowledge of mining regulations
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
In addition to the above, you will have:
• Registered with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) or a recognized engineering body
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment
• Possess the ability to analyze and understand complex technical information
• Good leadership and motivational skills, with the ability to get work done through others
• Good knowledge of construction techniques, requirements, and shaft operations.
• Good understanding of field requirements and conditions
