Key Responsibilities
JOB DESCRIPTION
The role encompasses responsibilities across Business Development, Sales & Product Management, Electronic Banking, Risk Management, and Operational Oversight.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
- Understand the dynamics of international and regional trade flows to assess market trends, identify business opportunities, and anticipate competitive threats.
- Develop a Trade Customer Target Market list for Corporate and Commercial Banking segments, including wallet sizing to map flows, volumes, key players, and trade corridors.
- Capture competitor intelligence and regulatory information to strengthen Ecobank’s competitive advantage.
- Ensure appropriate pricing of trade products with full collection of fees and commissions while driving revenue growth.
- Review monthly trade financials and manage the MIS process.
SALES AND PRODUCT MANAGEMENT
- Originate, structure, and close trade deals, working independently or jointly with Relationship Managers.
- Maintain and manage a robust trade deal pipeline, ensuring end-to-end conversion in coordination with the Trade Head and Relationship Managers to sustain revenue momentum.
- Drive new product development, rollout, and implementation efforts.
- Negotiate key trade terms with clients, resolving issues between product and client as needed.
- Provide expert trade advisory services to clients and Relationship Managers.
- Monitor utilization of approved trade credit facilities and drive usage.
- Participate in trade risk approvals and proactively manage the risk profile of the trade portfolio.
- Provide ongoing trade product knowledge to Relationship Managers and clients for opportunity identification and solution development.
- Create and deliver trade sales materials including presentations, brochures, proposals, and awareness campaigns.
- Drive client satisfaction and loyalty by offering differentiated services aligned with revenue potential.
- Ensure processes, systems, and structures are in place to serve existing clients and onboard new clients efficiently, reviewing these regularly via SLAs.
- Maintain strong relationships with local and regional trade stakeholders, including those within the broader Ecobank Group.
- Stay engaged in industry developments and integrate best practices from across the region.
ELECTRONIC BANKING
- Ensure Ecobank’s Trade Electronic Banking Platforms meet local customer needs effectively.
- Promote Ecobank’s Trade Electronic Banking products to become market leaders and aggressively grow client acquisitions.
RISK MANAGEMENT, AUDIT & COMPLIANCE, AND OPERATIONS
- Partner with Risk Management to ensure all trade transactions comply with risk mitigation policies.
- Interface with Compliance and Audit teams to manage incidents and issues within the Trade Finance domain.
- Collaborate with Operations and Technology to swiftly resolve issues affecting the Trade Electronic Platform.
- Serve as the Transaction Banking lead for Operations and Technology projects impacting Trade solutions.
JOB CONTEXT
This role demands regular engagement with customers to originate and structure trade transactions, as well as close coordination with internal stakeholders, including Local and Group Account Managers (LAMs, GAMs), Cluster and Group Trade Product Managers, and Risk. The incumbent must be customer-focused, results-oriented, and possess a proactive, professional approach.

Experience & Competencies
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Trade Finance, with at least 1 year in a market-facing or business development role.
- Strong understanding of trade products and ability to structure both simple and complex trade transactions.
- Solid knowledge of the local market and trade-related opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and negotiate effectively with clients.
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
- Proven experience in high-level relationship building and maintenance.
Education
