Job Summary
The Behavior Management Coordinator at Tree of Life (TOL) Children’s Village is responsible for promoting a supportive and positive environment through proactive behavior management strategies. This role involves designing and implementing behavior management programs, supporting staff training, and working directly with children to address behavioral challenges in a manner that aligns with the organization’s values. The Behavior Management Coordinator should be skilled in conflict resolution, demonstrate empathy, and foster an environment where children feel safe and valued. This position requires a deep understanding of child and adolescent development, experience with trauma-informed care, and a commitment to the holistic well-being of each child.
Specific Tasks
1. Behavior Management Program Development
• Develop, implement, and evaluate behavior management strategies and intervention plans tailored to meet the individual needs of children in the village.
• Design positive reinforcement programs that encourage good behavior, respect, and responsibility among children and youth.
• Ensure all behavioral management practices align with Family Legacy’s mission and child protection policies.
2. Children’s Welfare and Support
• Provide direct support to children with behavioral challenges, focusing on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and skill-building.
• Maintain regular communication with social services, counselors, and academic staff to ensure a coordinated approach to behavior support.
• Monitor and record behavioral progress and challenges, maintaining confidentiality while sharing relevant information with necessary staff.
3. Training and Staff Support
• Develop and lead training sessions for staff on behavior management techniques, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care.
• Provide coaching to staff on managing difficult behaviors and applying positive behavior intervention strategies.
• Serve as a resource for staff, offering support and guidance for handling complex behavioral situations.
4. Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution
• Lead crisis intervention efforts when behavior escalates, ensuring the safety and well-being of all children and staff involved.
• Provide debriefing and conflict resolution support following incidents, and work with children and staff to develop appropriate coping and communication strategies.
• Document and report critical incidents in accordance with organizational policies.
5. Family and Community Engagement
• Work with families and guardians to discuss behavioral concerns, achievements, and collaborative support plans for children.
• Engage with community stakeholders, such as counselors, social workers, and psychologists, to provide additional resources and referrals for children.
• Support reintegration efforts for children returning to their communities by coordinating with Social Services on behavior-related support.
6. Administrative and Reporting Duties
• Maintain detailed records of behavior plans, incidents, and progress notes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Generate monthly and quarterly reports summarizing behavioral trends, challenges, and outcomes to provide management insights.
• Monitor and track behavior management program effectiveness, making recommendations for improvements as needed.
Academic and Professional Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Child Development, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in behavior management, child counseling, or youth engagement.
• Certification in child counseling or trauma-informed care is preferred.
• Experience in Christian ministry or nonprofit setting is an added advantage.
• The Employee shall also be expected to undertake any responsibilities as may be delegated by his or her supervisor.
